I pulled the phone away from my ear and yelled at the man. “Under no circumstances are you to accept that money, or any other money that comes through in the coming days. Get me the information I seek, deny the god damn transfer, and make sure that my approval goes on any and all incoming monetary transactions. Is there something that is still unclear to you, Francis!?”

He was babbling like crazy the second the receiver came back to my ear. “Yes, sir. Loud and clear. I’ll work on gathering that information and get it over to you immediately. My apologies. I’m so sorry.”

I snarled. “Good. I want it in my inbox in the morning.”

I hung up the phone call and gripped my phone so tightly within the palm of my hand that the damn casing around it almost cracked. The second I felt it give, I tossed it onto my desk and flopped down into my office chair. I felt Eden’s inquisitive stare waiting for answers. She was very obviously waiting for me to gather myself.

And in that moment, only one thought crossed my mind.

Her family drama is going to take this ship down.

“Dominik?” Eden asked softly, barely above a whisper. “You okay?”

I closed my eyes and sighed heavily. “Your contract is now null and void.”

She paused. “What?”

I opened my eyes and looked up at her. “The contract that outlines where you offer your services in exchange for--”

“I know what fucking contract you’re talking about. What the hell just happened? What was that email about?”

I danced on my tiptoes and swiveled my chair toward the window. “The contract is now null and void. You’re done.”

“Is this your way of--?”

“I don’t ever want to see you in this building again, understood?”

She stayed silent for a long time before she cleared her throat. “Just talk to me. Show me what was in that email.”

I shot to my feet and slammed my fists against the window. “I don’t want you anywhere near my company or my life ever again. Do you understand!?”

I felt her grip on my suit jacket as she turned me around, forcing me to face her. “What the fuck just happened?”

I glared down at her. “Get out before I have you escorted out.”

“And what about my sister’s business, huh? What about everything that happened tonight? We can’t just--”

I wrapped my hand around her throat and pulled her close, listening to her wheeze. “You have two god damn minutes to get the fuck off my property, or I’ll have you dragged out and tossed onto your ass.”

She shook her head as she yanked herself away from my grasp. “You’re a monster. A fucking monster!”

I pointed to my office door. “Whatever this is? I won’t allow it to take me down. I won’t allow it to take my company down. Your family drama is yours, and yours alone to deal with. Now, get the fuck out of my building before I ruin you in the public eye for shits and giggles.”

Tears flooded her cheeks, taking with it her mascara and her foundation before she turned her back to me. She snatched her things off the chair in front of my desk, then stormed toward my office door. She yanked it open and slammed the door closed behind her without a second thought, and then the most piercing, most chaotic, most heart-wrenching shriek I had ever heard peeled from her lips out in the hallway.

And I froze until I heard the whirring of the elevator carrying her away.

It was one thing to take me down. It was another thing to target my best friend. But it was another thing altogether to link my entire life’s work to an organization I didn’t believe to exist until a few hours ago.

And I wouldn’t allow her family bullshit to take my legacy down.
