“Come on, you fuckers. Show your faces,” I growled.

Even though my eyes were watery, I took stock of as much as I could. I forced myself not to pay attention to the shattered windows. Or the holes in the garage door. Or the broken glass of the car windows that surrounded me. I had to believe they were still alive. I had to keep hope that, somehow, Eden and her family were safe inside. The SUVs started speeding out of the driveway, rear-ending one another and cutting each other off just to get away that much quicker.

And as I threw my car into park, I got out just in time to whip out my phone.

“Gotcha, you stupid cocksuckers,” I hissed.

I started up a video and recorded as many license plates flying by as I could. Some men peered through the tinted windows, and I caught stock of their eyes so clearly that, for some of them, I even knew the color. They were idiots. All of them. And before all of this was said and done, I’d see to it that every single one of their asses rotted away in solitary in the middle of fucking nowhere.

Then, once they all drove out of sight, I saved the video and tucked my phone away.

“Eden!” I bellowed.

With my car sitting partially in their driveway and partially in their measly front yard, I charged the porch. Fire truck horns honked and police sirens screamed as they grew closer to the homestead. My heart stopped in my chest at the sheer chaos that surrounded me. My leather shoes crunched against glass and splintered wood as I reached for the doorknob of the front door.

And when the door didn’t automatically open, I looked over toward the broken window to my left.

Time to climb my way in.

“Eden!” I called out as I knocked the rest of the shards of glass away.

I stuck my leg through and ducked down before I found myself standing on a couch.

“Eden! Say something God dammit!”

At first, the only sound that hit my ears were the sirens approaching. I didn’t see any blood anywhere, but the silence wasn’t good. Maybe she couldn’t hear me, though. I mean, my ears were ringing pretty badly, and I had been up the damn block from all of the insanity.

“Eden!” I bellowed.

Then, finally, I heard her voice. “Dominik?”

“Jesus Christ,” I said breathlessly. “Eden! Where are you?”

“Dominik!?”

I tore around the corner and watched as she pulled herself out from beneath a kitchen table. There they all were, completely unharmed and untouched, and despite the damage that surrounded them none of them were bleeding. None of them had been shot. I had no idea how the hell that was possible, unless of course those men hadn’t come to hurt them at all. But a relief so great and so wide overcame me, and I reacted before I caught myself.

“Oh, thank fuck,” I whispered.

I rushed toward her and helped her up from the floor. I pulled her into my arms, rocking her side to side as her fingertips curled into my lower back. She gripped my suit, her entire body quaking against me as I buried my nose into her wild hair.

“I just knew you guys were dead,” I whispered.

“Are you hurt?” she asked as she pulled away from my embrace. “Did they shoot you? Did they even see you?”

I shook my head as I cupped her cheeks in my hands. “No one saw me. I actually ran a few of them over. They’re gone. The police are close.”

“Ahem,” her father said.

I peeked over at him, but I didn’t bother addressing him. “Emily?”

She pulled herself up from the floor. “Uh, yeah?”

“Are you and Jackson still seeing each other?”

She quirked an eyebrow. “You’re concerned about that right now?”

I shot her a look. “Call him and tell him to get to my office immediately. I’m taking you all there now. We have a lot to talk about.”
