Me: Goodnight.

Basedon the noises coming from within the house, I braced myself for the worst.

I opened the door and found the house packed full of guys who weren’t even in our fraternity, all of them blowing kazoos as balloons floated in the air. Aiden stood at the back, chugging a beer through a funnel.

There was a banner above the couch that had my name on it but nothing else, which was odd. It most certainly was not my birthday.

Wondering what the hell was going on, I set the food on the kitchen table and glanced at everybody. I was tired and not in the mood to party, or to celebrate anything, even if it was pertaining to me. “Guys, it’s supposed to be a chill kind of night. What’s going on?”

Aiden emerged from behind me and placed a giant golden crown on top of my head, one that was so heavy I nearly fell over. I turned around and found him smiling right in my face.

“There he is, everybody! All hail The Bedroom King!”

The guys erupted into a mixed round of applause and laughter, chanting my name and Bedroom King in between. I took the crown off, took one look at it, and chucked it at Aiden. He caught it with one hand before pulling me in for a half-hug.

Aiden sensed my growing tension and tried to calm everyone down. “Alright, guys. Blade’s a little tired from cleaning up the messy house all day, so let’s pipe down a bit.”

“Thanks,” I said.

Aiden patted me on the back a little too hard, a sure sign that he was already plastered and another reminder that I no longer wanted to be in a fraternity. “Anything for you, bro. All joking aside, though, we wanted to throw a little party to celebrate you going pro.”

It did feel good knowing that my brothers were supporting my future career. I didn’t have the heart to tell them I wouldn’t be back next semester, though. That was a conversation I’d have with Aiden over the winter break, since he’d be next in line for President.

I sipped the beer Aiden handed to me.

“Thanks, guys. I wish I could be more enthusiastic right now, but this semester has kicked my ass and I’m beat.”

Aiden loudly belched after chugging a beer, his arm still clutching onto my shoulder. “At least you get to de-stress by going to pound town with your new girlfriend.”

Our brothers burst out laughing, which felt more like mockery than congratulatory.

“Look, I see where you’re going with this, guys. Having fun with chicks is fine when you first get to college, but it gets old after a while. Trust me. By the time you guys are seniors, you’ll know what I’m talking about.”

That was enough to bring the spirit of the party down, resulting in the guys booing a little too loudly.

“Speak for yourself,” Aiden said. “Fuck monogamy, right boys? ”

And once again they were cheering, holding their beers in the air until Aiden spoke up again.

“Then again, your girlfriend is also your tutor, which means you’ll be passing with flying colors. Maybe you made the right choice by settling down, if only for this semester.”

I pried Aiden’s arm off of me. “That’s not why I got back together with her, okay? In fact…”

Aiden interrupted me, though. “And to think, all of this is because of me, you guys.”

“Aiden, no, don’t say anything else.” I grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him backwards, pleading through gritted teeth, “Please, I’m begging you!”

He smirked at me before raising his beer, too drunk to fully grasp what was happening. “If it weren’t for me, guys, Blade never would have gone for it with Isabella. I said that if he could get her into bed, then he could graduate next May as The Bedroom King, even if numerically the title would belong to me.”
