“Well, how about you let me make it up to you?”

My body froze. Was he serious?

“What?”

“Why don’t I bring you some breakfast this morning as an apology for what I did, or didn’t do, in your dream?”

I wanted nothing more than to see him first thing this morning, but I’d already shared far too much. I didn’t want to seem too eager, so I tried to act nonchalant about it. “That’s not a bad start. What are you bringing me?”

“Anything you want.”

“Mmm. I want a surprise, so you’re going to have to choose.”

He didn’t hesitate to respond. “Fair enough. Is there anything you won’t eat?”

“If you stick with typical breakfast foods, the only thing you could bring I wouldn’t want to eat is oatmeal. Other than that, you can’t go wrong.”

Forrest let out another laugh. “Noted. I should be there within the next twenty minutes or so, if that works for you.”

“That works for me.”

“Great. And now that it’s starting to sink in, it’s hitting me just how wrong Dream Forrest was. I think it’s going to take more than me just bringing you breakfast to make up for how disappointing he was.”

I wanted to burst out laughing, but by some miracle, I kept it together. “What did you have in mind?”

“After breakfast, I’m going to take you out to do something fun today, but I’ll make sure it’s not going to be a problem for your foot,” he declared. “Afterward, if you’re up for a change of scenery, we can come back here, to my cabin, where I’ll make you dinner, and we can watch a movie together.”

I loved everything about what he had planned.

“No plans to snowboard today?” I asked.

There was an extended pause before Forrest said, “Daisy, the last thing I’d ever do in real life is leave a woman like you disappointed and feeling frustrated. There’s not a chance in hell I’m going to go out riding today when I can spend the day showing you just how good I am at following through.”

A shiver ran down my spine. “Okay.”

“I’ll see you soon.”

“See you soon.”

Forrest and I disconnected, and for the next few minutes, I stayed there in the bed, staring up at the ceiling.

I was excited, looking forward to a fun-filled day with a great guy.

Eventually, I forced myself to get up, because I had a feeling Forrest was going to be here within the twenty minutes he’d said. Considering I had only one fully functioning foot, I needed to get a head start on getting myself ready for my day.

And as I shuffled myself around the room, doing what needed to be done before Forrest arrived, I found my mind muddled with a bunch of thoughts.

I’d had several months of feeling the need to be a bit more reserved, so I wouldn’t make another huge mistake again.

But now that I’d spent the last couple of days with Forrest, I found it wasn’t so easy to keep it up.

I didn’t think this was all about me suddenly being away from the place where everything had all gone wrong.

I wanted to believe it was about the man who’d caught my attention, the man who effortlessly flirted with me and made me forget about all that had been bringing me down for months.

But more than that, being around Forrest reminded me of something else.

I was still a woman searching for love.
