Forrest let out a laugh. “Do you really want to know the answer to that?”

“Yes.”

“My birthday was the day you asked me if we could spend the night together that night,” he revealed.

I stopped in my tracks, my mouth dropping open. “Are you serious?”

He nodded, a smile lighting up his face. “It was honestly the best birthday of my life.”

I rolled my eyes. As wonderful of a man as I thought Forrest was, he was obviously still a man. And sometimes, it seemed there was only one thing on his mind.

Of course, I didn’t necessarily mind it, because Forrest had been very generous and attentive with me ever since we’d taken that step. I’d had more orgasms than I could count, and he was always certain to take care of me before he ever took care of himself. I’d never had that before.

“Wait a minute,” I ordered. “Are you telling me that if you hadn’t met me here, you would have spent your birthday here alone?”

“Yes.”

“What about your family? With the way you talk about them, I would have thought they’d want to spend your birthday with you?” I questioned him.

Nodding, he confirmed, “They do. And I’ll see them when I go back home. They actually reached out to me that morning to send birthday wishes to me and already have dinner plans for when I get back.”

For several long seconds, I stared at him. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“For what reason?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. We could have celebrated.”

Forrest released my hand, reached up, and lifted his goggles away from his face. While he rested them against the top of his helmet, I couldn’t miss the way he lifted one of his brows or the way his lips twitched. “I think we did celebrate, Daisy.”

Shaking my head, I noted, “That’s not what I meant. I’m talking about cake. I could have gotten you a present while we were out earlier in the day.”

He pulled his glove off, reached his hand out to my face, and gently pinched my chin between his thumb and forefinger. “There is no present you could have purchased for me that would have topped just being able to spend the day with you. Given I got even more than just being able to spend the day with you, given that you spent the night with me, I can honestly say I’m not the least bit disappointed about how my birthday went this year.”

I closed my eyes and let out a deep sigh.

Forrest was a dream come true.

I knew I kept telling myself that, but it was still so unbelievable to me that I’d met someone like him.

When I opened my eyes again, I tipped my head to the side and asked softly, “Please tell me how you would choose to spend our last night together tonight.”

Forrest didn’t hesitate. “I’d like to have dinner with you. We can go out or order in. And then I’d like to have you in my arms the rest of the night. We can do that out somewhere, if you’d like, or we can make it happen at the cabin. That’s all I want.”

“Ordering dinner in and spending the night wrapped up in your arms sounds like a wonderful night to me under one condition,” I replied.

“Which is?”

Smiling, I answered, “You have to let me buy dinner and cake, so we can do a belated celebration.”

“Daisy, that’s not?—”

Holding my hand up to cut him off, I said, “It’s the only condition, Forrest. You’ve done everything to take care of me on this trip. It’s over tomorrow, and I want to do something nice for you. Let me do this tonight, or don’t spend the night with me at all.”

“Sunshine…” he trailed off.

My eyes filled with tears, because I was dreading it. I was dreading not having this with him after today. Whispering, I begged, “Please.”

He held my gaze for a few beats before he sighed and nodded his head.
