We were getting to leave.

Going to a place where not only we could be together but that was safe and we could enjoy a normal life as mates.

“What are you waiting for? Go on!” the headmistress prompted as she opened her laptop.

We began to leave, but I turned around before going through the door. “Thank you, Headmistress. Not only for this but for taking me in when I had nowhere else to go.”

She nodded. “I’m sorry we couldn’t make this a safe haven for you, Karelis. I wish you and your mates all the best. I will be keeping tabs on you from afar. And I’m here if you ever need me—all of you. Good luck.”

We left the office and stood right outside, soaking up what had just transpired.

“Did that just happen?” Blaze asked. “We can leave?”

I nodded and kissed his lips, looking forward to the normal things we could do together now. “Yes. But maybe before we leave, we should confirm with your brother? I hate for us to barge in there and assume they are going to help us, but you know him better than me.”

“Let’s call him.”

“I’m packing,” Casimir said. “And as soon as we get settled, we’re taking you to dinner and a cheesy romance movie and making out in the theater.”

I snorted. “That sounds like the best date ever.”

Chapter Twenty-Two

Blaze

“We need to talk.” I started my conversation with my brother after he picked up the video chat. He sat on the couch with Raven on one side and Onyx on the other, but there were many more voices in the room.

“Hey, everyone!” Asher raised his voice. “Something’s wrong with Blaze.”

Instant silence.

“Blaze, what’s going on?” My brother sounded concerned.

“We were attacked by Karelis’ pack—where she came from. He…” I trailed off. The words got stuck in my throat. But my brother and his mates needed to know the danger we were in. They would help us. They already said they would, and if I knew anything about my brother, he was a man of his word. “He wants to take Karelis and force her to mate with him for heirs to his fucking throne.”

“What in the ever-loving hell?” Onyx said. “Are you four safe? What can we do? I’ll get in the truck right now and come over there.”

Onyx was the fiercest sister-in-law in the history of in-laws.

If I gave her the go, she would come over here and do just that.

“We already talked to the headmistress,” Cas yelled out. I pulled the phone’s stand out and placed it on the desk so they could see all four of us. “She is setting things up so that we can come to UA—immediately.”

“Whoa!” Valentina came into the picture behind Asher. “You’re coming here? Hell yeah. It’s been a hot minute since we had a fight.”

Her mates groaned in the background. One of them said something like our girl can’t handle the peace.

“We don’t want the fight, V,” I said. “We just want Karelis to be protected. I don’t want any of us hurt.”

V rolled her eyes. I didn’t know her well, but I’d heard the stories, mostly from my twin. He trusted her and her mates with his life.

If my brother could trust her, then so could we. We desperately needed people behind us. People who had our backs.

“No one wants the fight, Blaze.” Asher shook his head slowly. “I mean, I get a kick out of it now, but in the moment, that shit was scary. The thought of losing my mates isn’t one I want to revisit anytime soon. When can you get here?”

I snorted. Valentina was one of the good ones. “We are packing up now. We don’t have much, but they have a dorm room for us until we can get a suite.”

“Dude! The townhouse next door just went up for rent. Want me to put a deposit down?” Asher asked.
