“We got news. About the Light Kingdom.”

I sat back on my haunches. “What about it?”

“The king never got back. They’re not sure, but they think his magical transport failed and he got sucked in between somewhere or ended up in the wrong place.”

“What about his henchmen?”

“Oh, they showed up, battered, bruised, and clawed up.”

“Do you think that the king trying to do his trick while also moving his soldiers in their alternate forms could have gone wrong?” I couldn’t know for sure, but my wolf yipped inside me. “My wolf thinks that could be.”

“She knows more than we do, but we can’t let our guard down while he could be out there.”

“He’s not.” Or at least my wolf was insisting. “She says she can’t feel his wolf anywhere. If he was around, because she was once under him, like an alpha but not, she’d know.”

Blaze got down to help me look just as my other two mates came in.

“Did you tell her?” Adan sat on the side of the bed.

“Yes, I did. Her wolf thinks he’s gone.”

“Honestly? So do I.” Casimir, our warrior, stood straight, not bending at all. “From what you’ve told me about him and what we saw, he’s not about to take on anyone himself. He makes others fight for him and never even tried to take us on. He wouldn’t stay out here to come after us without his henchmen. We’ll keep our eyes open and on alert, but I think he’s gone.”

“If only.” I found my shoes and held them up in triumph. “Okay, just a little primping and I’m ready.” Or I would have been, but something about my mates in a room with a bed sidetracked us for a little. We’d take a lot of teasing from his twin and probably everyone when we got downstairs, but that was okay.

I’d take any amount of heckling for one of their kisses.
