"I did NOT see anything of the sort. She just gave me the change and I left. I think you're seeing things."

Austin huffed and started walking again. As he passed me, still standing with my disbelief on my face, he muttered. "I think your dick is turned off."

"What?"

Austin turned. "Yeah, you heard me. Your fucking dick is off, man. When's the last time you noticed the world outside of our clinic or F2? I mean, we all appreciate everything you do for us and, well, everything, but when's the last time you cut loose and had some fun? I'm worried about you, buddy. We're not young anymore and there are other things to think about other than medicine and numbers."

"On that note, how's Serena?"

"Shut the fuck up and listen to me." He quickly changed his tone to a softer one. "Serena's fine, thank you." Then the angry tone was back. "Stop changing the fucking topic and think about you. We can't hang out as bros for the rest of our lives. You'll need to think about opening those Spock-eyes of yours and start looking for a partner. As much as we love you, we're all having to get our lives going. Look at Hugo and Simone. Enzo is the cutest little accident that could happen to this group. He's just the beginning. I don't want all of us to move on and you're still sitting in your darkened office looking at numbers with your floppy dick." He used his floppy hand to emphasize his point.

I sighed.

"Okay, okay. I hear you. But it's not like I can just start picking up chicks, you know. It's a process."

Austin hit me on the back as we kept walking. "Okay, well, your assignment today is to draw me a fucking flowchart of the process of finding a chick. Got it?"

I laughed. "Got it."

The rest of our walk was fun and easy, just how I liked it. That was the thing with these guys. We were family, or famiglia, as Hugo would say. We had a silent agreement of tough love and always looked out for each other. And that's just what I loved.

As I walked through the medical center, my polished leather shoes clicked against the pristine white tile floor. I adjusted the dark blue tie that matched my piercing eyes, knowing that it was essential to maintain a professional appearance. We had a mirrored wall at the entrance where I could double check my appearance before walking into the usually crowded waiting area.

Yep, the hair was looking good.

Austin and I fist bumped as we entered the waiting room and we walked toward the reception desk, heading to our separate office areas.

"Morning, Dr. Harrington, Dr. Montrose." Rachel, the medical assistant, greeted me with a warm smile as we passed her desk. Our other assistant, Simone, Hugo's wife, was away on maternity leave. Their son, Enzo, had arrived a little earlier than expected, so Rachel was thrown into the deep end. She was swamped with work, but so far, she had been handling everything extremely efficiently and still had a smile on her face. We hired a temporary fill-in assistant on busy days, but she really deserved a lot of credit.

"Good morning, Rachel," I replied with a genuine grin.

"Hey, Dom. Let's hit the gym later," Austin called out.

I gave him a thumbs up. We each had a full calendar today, besides our weekly ops meeting. But that was all business, so unless we met over lunch or by chance when we got coffee, this would be the last time we usually made social plans. Plans always on the fly. Logan had his in-hospital day today and Hugo…

"Good morning." Hugo was sitting in the staff room as I popped in to put the fruit on the counter.

"Good morning, Dr. Italian Stallion."

Hugo smirked.

"Very funny. Thanks for picking up the fruit," he said, nodding toward my delivery.

"No problem. Hey, we might go to the gym after work today. At least Austin suggested it. You in?"

"Not sure. Enzo has been a little fussy lately. I should probably go and relieve Simone from her busy day."

I nodded. Yep. Life changes when you have a baby. Maybe this is what Austin was getting at this morning. Everyone was going to be busy with life and I would just be, well, sitting in my office with a floppy dick.

"Yeah, I'm not sure if I can make it either. I have some numbers to go over."

Hugo looked up from his coffee. "About that. Simone and I feel bad about the extra load that Rachel is taking on. I mean, she is capable, but there are only so many hours in the day. That's got to add more to your plate, too, and that's not right. We should talk about hiring someone else. Someone who can do office management and some reception activities."

I sighed because I knew he was right. But that was another thing that I couldn't put on my plate at the moment.

Just then, Rachel walked in. "Dr. Harrington, your next patient is ready."

"Thank you," I said. Turning to Hugo, "Let's table this for the ops meeting. I'd better start my day."
