"Thanks, Dom."

"You're welcome." I shifted in my chair, adjusting my pants because something had shifted down there when she smiled. "Alright, let's wrap things up for today," I suggested, trying to shake off my lingering thoughts. "We've covered a lot already, and I think you're off to a great start. As long as you can handle working with me, I think we're good."

"I think I can handle that just fine." Fuck. There's that smile again.

"Great," I replied, offering her a warm smile before rising from my chair. As she gathered her things and prepared to leave for the day, I couldn't help but steal one last glance at her retreating figure. "Oh, Calla, I won't be in on Monday. Taking a long weekend to visit my family. Talk to Rachel on Monday about ordering supplies if she's free, and you can continue to sort out these digital files."

"Gotcha. Thank you and have a safe trip. See you Tuesday." Her eyes met mine for a brief, charged moment before she disappeared through the office door.

"Dammit," I echoed quietly, my heart racing with anticipation and trepidation. As much as I wanted to keep our relationship strictly professional, I knew resisting Calla would be a battle I'd have to fight every damn day. And one I wasn't entirely sure I could win.

Chapter 10

Calla

Iwalked out of the office, proud of how the first day went. I felt energetic even though I had spent the entire day looking at a screen. I wasn't going to lie. Being that close to Dominic was an energy boost. His cologne made me swoon and when he was working with on the computer, I won't deny that I didn't feel like jumping him.

Ugh. Was I really going to be able to handle working at this office so closely to this gorgeous hunk of a man? I loved how sure he was of himself. How introverted and focused he was. He was adorable poring over his endless spreadsheets. His ability to find errors in that mountain of information was admirable.

And keeping my mind off the night we had together was near impossible. I kept remembering his chiseled frame; that little nub guys get when they work their sides. God, thinking about him was making me overheat.

"Fifteen dollars! End of the day! Only fifteen dollars!" My daydreaming was interrupted by the corner flower stand. It was Friday afternoon and he was getting rid of the last few bouquets that he had. I stopped to buy myself some.

As I gave the man my money, I leaned in and breathed in the fresh aroma from the beautiful collection of flowers. They were going to look perfect on our kitchen table and remind me of the great first day at the clinic.

Walking home, everything seemed brighter, everyone looked happy, and I kept walking with a skip in my step. Friday, glorious Friday. I wonder what trouble I can get into tonight?

Approaching home, my phone buzzed.

Dominic

Hey – I hope you don't mind that I'm using this newly acquired number. Sitting here wondering what you're doing tonight.

Of course I don't mind. I was just wondering that myself.

Care to join me in doing something?

Sure. What do you want to do?

I have no clue. I'll pick you up at 6. Don't eat. Dress casual. I'll come to this newly acquired address. Sound good?

LOL. Sure. See you at 6.

I smiled as I put my phone back in my purse. Now there was an extra skip in my step. I checked my watch. 5:25pm. Just enough time to freshen up and change before he came over.

As I went up the stairs, Cassie was just coming out.

"Hey!" I greeted her.

"Hey Cal. I'm going out tonight. I have a hot date that I Tindered for myself." She pulled out her phone and showed me her date.

"Wow, he's a looker. Where are you going?"

"We're meeting at the aquarium."

"The aquarium? That's an interesting first date."

"I LOVE the aquarium. I can't wait! I'll text if I'm not coming home, ok? Sorry, I gotta run. I'll be late if I don't walk at a fast pace starting now." She gave me a quick hug and bounded down the stairs. I watched her walk halfway down the block. Ah, Cassie. So full of life.
