"What?"

"That you keep me in line when I need it."

We laughed together, still in each other's arms, unwilling to break apart.

"Seriously, Dom. We should stop."

He let out a teasing, exasperated tone, knowing I was speaking the truth, but telling me he wanted to continue being close.

"Calla, let's sit," he began, his voice low and serious. We sat down at his table. "There's actually something I've been meaning to ask you."

"Yes?" I replied, trying to sound casual but feeling my heartbeat quicken.

"Next month, our F2 Foundation is putting on a gala for all of our partners. It's a really important event to thank everyone for their donations and their interest in what we're doing. Also, it's a chance to wear something other than our scrubs." He paused and took a deep breath, as if steeling himself. "I was wondering if you'd like to be my date?"

His words hung in the air, heavy with anticipation, as my heart threatened to pound its way out of my chest. I imagined myself on Dominic's arm, dressed in a stunning gown and accompanying him to such an important event. The idea was both thrilling and terrifying all at once.

"Wow, uh, that sounds amazing," I stammered, struggling to find the right words. "But are you sure you want me to go with you? I mean," …and I realized I didn't really know what I was saying, but, "Would this be making 'us' official?"

"Calla," he said firmly, locking his eyes onto mine. "I want you to be my date because, yeah, I want you to be there with ME. Consider it official if you want, but I also don't want to put any pressure on you for anything. Let's just go and have some fun together."

My mind raced with a mix of excitement and fear. Official? My heart started to race. But he was right. No pressure. Just go have some fun.

"What the hell," I muttered under my breath, surprising even myself with my own boldness. "Did I just say that out loud?" I chuckled nervously, hoping my momentary lapse in composure hadn't ruined everything.

Dominic's lips curved into a smile, and he let out a low laugh. "I like that attitude," he said, his eyes dancing with amusement. "So, is that a yes?"

I hesitated for just a moment longer, weighing the risks in my mind before finally making a decision. If there was one thing I knew about myself, it was that I never shied away from taking chances.

"Alright, Dominic," I agreed, feeling a surge of adrenaline course through me. "I'll be your date to the gala."

"Perfect," he replied, his smile widening. "I promise you won't regret it."

As we continued discussing the details of the upcoming event, I couldn't help but feel a blend of excitement and anxiety bubbling within me. The vulnerability I experienced in that moment was something I hadn't allowed myself to feel in years. But there was something about Dominic that made me want to take this leap of faith.

I started to organize the papers on the table, trying to compose myself while my mind was racing about, well, everything.

"Calla, do you have any preferences for the type of dress you want to wear? Something that would make you feel comfortable and confident?" Dominic asked, breaking the silence.

"Um," I admitted, feeling a flush creep up my cheeks. "Maybe something elegant yet simple? I think I'll have to go shopping for something. Black tie, right?"

"Right. Dress up as much as you want. The sky's the limit." His eyes twinkled. "I can't wait to see you all dressed up. You're going to knock everyone's socks off."

"Thanks," I mumbled, feeling the heat in my face intensify. I admit, I was getting horny just thinking about him in a tuxedo.

"Seriously, Calla, you have a natural beauty that doesn't need much added to it. But if you would be so kind to let me treat you to a dress and whatever else you might need, I would be honored. Hair, makeup, shoes, whatever. I know someone who could help you out."

"Really?" I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his offer. "I might take you up on that."

"Great, please do. Just let me know when you're free, and I'll schedule an appointment."

With each little detail we discussed, the upcoming gala began to feel more real, and my anticipation only grew. The thought of spending an entire evening with Dominic at a high-society social event and just being together in public with him, set my heart racing.

"Thank you. Now, let's really get back to work," I said, forcing myself to focus on the tasks at hand.

"Right," Dominic agreed, his eyes lingering on me for a moment longer before he turned his attention back to his computer screen.

As I collected my papers and returned to my desk, a small smile played on my lips as I busied myself with emails and work. Despite my fears and insecurities, I couldn't deny the excitement that coursed through me at the thought of the upcoming event. Little did I know that this decision would set into motion a series of events that would change both of our lives forever. And as I glanced over at Dominic one last time before diving into my work, I couldn't help but think that maybe, just maybe, I was about to embark on an adventure like no other.
