I sure could use some bro-time.

Who's up for some ball tomorrow morning?

Seth

Wait… I'm in, but Dom is asking about ball?

Logan

Who is this stranger? I'm in, too.

Hugo

I guess that only means one thing. We all have to go.

Austin

I'm in. I'll dazzle you f'ers like I always do.

Perfect. I booked the court for tomorrow morning at 8am. Be there.

Austin

8?!? WTF, Dom. Can you be human for once? It's Saturday!

OK. 8:30 then.

Austin

Fucker. Fine. 8am.

Alright. Well, that was lined up.

The sound of the basketball hitting the court was one of the happiest sounds in my world. We would get together and just blow off some steam. In terms of skill, we all pretty much sucked, but it was great to throw the ball around and basically take turns swearing at Austin.

Just to prove his protest to the timing, Austin put his hair up in little blond pigtails and tied pieces of paper to them with tiny protest signs that said, "8am? WTF". I enjoyed watching them swing as he bounded down the court.

Time with these guys was precious to me. Times like these, when I was facing uncertainty, always comforted me. And I knew I had to let them into the window of my brain.

Our game ended with Hugo sinking a three-pointer. The Italian Stallion had come a long way with his basketball skills. He had said he didn't grow up playing it, but now he was better than all of us.

We sat around our bags, drinking water and wiping the sweat off our faces.

"Man, this run around always feels good." Seth speaks truth.

"It is helping keep back the dad bod from forming," Hugo chimed in. Hugo had a long way to go before we could ever accuse him of having a dad bod.

We had all managed to keep in shape, going to our normal downtown gym that cost us all way too much, and interspersing those times with running around here at the community basketball gym. We weren't called the hottest neurologists for nothing.

"Well, thanks guys," I said. "I really needed this."

Logan, always attuned to how everyone was feeling, seemed to hone in on me. "What's up, Dom? It feels like you have something you want to talk about."

I sighed. "Maybe. But maybe here's not a great time or place."

Austin grimaced as he pulled out his pigtails. "Well, how about a quick shower and then head to breakfast downtown? I'll treat."

"Our investment fund will treat," I said.
