Karen and I exchanged wide-eyed looks, and I took a closer look at the scarf tied around my wrist. I had no words. Well, maybe three. WTF.

Karen's mouth was wide open, and it was clear she had no words as well.

"I have no words," she literally said.

"Me neither."

"Who would believe this story?"

"I have no idea." We were both still shaking our heads.

We pulled up to the hospital; the driver shooing us inside while he brought in our luggage and the supply boxes. The hospital looked clean and well run, if a bit old.

"Dr. Harrington!" I turned around to see Dr. Al-Sawi's broad smile.

"Dr. Al-Sawi. We're finally here." I offered my hand out to him. He stepped back, surprised. I realized it was the hand with the scarf.

"Where did you get that?" he cried. He looked shocked, but also overjoyed-shocked.

I recounted the story to him and he kept shaking his head and muttering, "How, how, how?" He clapped his hand on my shoulder a few times, smiling. "This is a good start, Doctor. A good start."

Chapter 30

Calla

Dominic had been gone from the office for a few days already. I had to admit that it was somewhat of a relief. When he was around, I had been hiding out in my office, keeping to my tasks, doing my best, and just keeping out of sight unless I was needed.

I had to admit though; I missed the man. But without him there, I could roam freely again and get my feet under me. But it didn't make it any easier.

I realized what he did when he gave me the marketing assignment. He knew that I loved marketing and I could dive into it and just get lost in setting up our social media campaign. I set up a proposal for the management team and set a time to have a video meeting with Vic.

I was putting the finishing touches on my presentation when I saw it was time to connect. I opened the meeting and Vic's screen appeared.

"Hi, Vic!"

"Hey, Calla. Nice to see you."

"Thanks for joining me. I appreciate you helping me out with this project."

"You're welcome, but I think you probably have this sussed. My big brother just has issues with control sometimes. But I'm happy to be your sounding board. I may have seen a few things over the years." She winked.

"I know I can learn a lot from you, so please don't hold back."

We talked about the general design and color board for the company's social media posts, and set up a posting schedule across various platforms. I spoke about themes, frequency and feel of the photos, and wrote about ten example posts for her to look over.

She looked on without much to say, nodded here and there and was overall super-attentive. When I was done the presentation, she clapped.

God, that felt good.

"Calla, that was amazing. I think you've covered all the bases really well. I would suggest that maybe you adopt a different tone between LinkedIn and IG, but otherwise, I think you've nailed it." I beamed with pride.

"Thanks, Vic. I appreciate your input."

"Yeah, you sure know your stuff. Well done. But maybe we can pretend I'm still giving value so I can make the most out of the payment my brother is giving me." She laughed her contagious laugh.

"Sure, I'll do what I can. He won't argue!"

We had a great meeting, filled with laughter and easy conversation. Vic was great, and I was thankful that I had the chance to get to know her better.
