Austin came to sit beside me and held my hand as I tried to stop shaking.

"Calla. Please, keep trying to breathe deeply. You need to calm down." He was right. As much as I wanted to beat them all to a pulp.

I did what I could to calm myself. I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths. I thought about everyone in my life. Cassie, Ava, Mom, Dad, Mr. Kruger, Dom. Thinking of Dom, I started crying silent tears.

"Please," I begged. "Please tell me he's okay."

Logan said, "The honest answer is, we're not sure yet. No one has heard from him. But we trust he's okay. We haven't heard anything out of the ordinary, and like I said, it's not unexpected when we go on missions trips."

"But what did Hugo mean, then? Is this a high-risk area? Should he not have gone? Is his life in danger?" I felt my heart race again, but tried to catch it before it went out of control.

Hugo sighed deeply. "Somalia is a well-known, difficult place to go. It isn't recommended for travel."

"Why did you let him go?" I cried.

"Calla," Logan said softly. "You know Dom. When he wants to do something, there is very little that you can do to stop him. We all tried, believe me. But he was sure he wanted to go. He got the idea in his head and it was like everything fell into place."

I sniffed, remembering the time we went to see the exhibit at the art museum. He was enthralled. Then the doctor who showed up at the gala. Dom was so excited.

The guys were right. No one could have stopped him from going. He was literally a man on a mission, and he wasn't going to stop for anyone.

Not even me.

"I'm sorry, guys," I sniffed. "I don't know what came over me. I mean, we're not even together anymore."

The guys all looked at each other and it made me wonder what was going through their minds.

Logan squeezed my shoulder. "About that. We're all sorry that it didn't work out. As much as Dom is our brother, we tried to talk him out of it."

"Out of what?"

The look of "Oh shit" had successfully transferred to Logan.

"Ummm… I mean…." Logan stuttered.

Austin hung his head. "Shit. Guys, we suck at this. Let's just come clean."

"Guys," I said, putting my open hand on the table for emphasis. "Tell me what you know. I can take it."

Logan exhaled. "Calla, we can't say for sure, but we think Dom broke up with you because he didn't want you to be worried about him or his safety."

I was incredulous. "How does breaking up with me stop me from worrying about him or caring about him?"

Austin shrugged. "Call it man-logic."

"Hey, hey, hey. Don't use such a wide paintbrush. I would call it Dom-logic," Hugo corrected him.

The guys all nodded.

"So, you think Dom broke up with me only because he thought it was for the best, just in case something happened?"

They nodded again.

I looked at the ceiling and cried out in frustration. "What a stupid fucker! How about ask me for my opinion? Doesn't my opinion and wants come into this at all? Why make me think it was because of something I did?"

Although they were surprised at my outburst, they all looked like they kind of agreed.

"When is he back?" I demanded.
