“Deal.”

“Instead…” He runs his tongue across his lips, scraping his bottom lip with his teeth until he releases it into a shy smile. “Will you please marry me and make me the least bored man in the world?”

“Really?” The gaggle of butterflies in my belly releases into a fit of giggles. “Is that the best adjective you could think of for such a grand occasion?”

“No, but I literally forgot every damn word I had prepared when I kissed your hands.”

I balance on his shoulder pad and also lower down to my knees, my arms circling his neck. “Does it make you feel better if I tell you my heart is beating faster than in the middle of a hockey game?”

“It helps.” He leans his forehead gently against mine. “I need your finger to put on the ring.”

“You have all of me, Max.”

“And you’re my light.”

His fingers comb through my hair, finding my nape to hold me as his lips descend on mine. There’s cheering all around us, or that could just be every fiber of my being. And I don’t even care if we’re being broadcasted on the jumbotron for everyone to see; I kiss Max right over this faceoff circle like this is the last time, even though this is just the start to the rest of our lives together.

THE END
