Oh, how irresistible she was!

“Yes,” she answered, grabbing my arm in preparation for the bite.

That was all I needed to surrender myself. Esmeralda let out a muffled moan as I sank my fangs into her neck, and her nails dug into my skin.

Her blood was divine!

Never in my life had I tasted such a delicious human, and I knew I could never do without her again. I drank slowly, taking the time to savor her. Her body tensed, and her breaths turned shallow. My heart beat in time with Esmeralda’s, and I saw her most secret thoughts. Connected to her, a surge of emotions and memories flashed through my mind, from the fear of getting caught by vampires to the lust that she felt right now. I drowned in the same desire as her—a forbidden pleasure that invaded me. I didn’t want to stop, but I didn’t want to drink too much and hurt her.

“More,” she begged as I withdrew my fangs from her.

“You’re mine,” I rumbled as I licked the puncture to heal the skin.

“Yes.” Her words came out in a trembling voice.

I was intrigued when I realized that my shoulder no longer hurt. The healing effect was much stronger than usual, but I would think about that later. Right now, a woman sat on top of me—a beautiful one at that.

“Please, more!” she pleaded again. The scent of her arousal was strong and enticing.

“That’s enough for today, my pretty,” I replied, but I was already under her spell. “Your body needs to rest, but I can give you something else if you wish.”

She bit her lower lip, her eyes heavy with desire. I realized that my emptiness had been filled. Acquiring a pet had done more than I could have imagined. Had I known, I would have done it sooner. I was so happy that the laws had allowed me to meet Esmeralda. I would never let her leave my life again.

She nodded, and I sealed our moment with a kiss. I removed her clothes, taking care not to snag the bandage on her arm. My fingers roamed her body as she shivered in pleasure. She was my forbidden treasure, and I was filled with greed, determined to take it all. I enjoyed watching her unravel as I found her clit. When she trembled with ecstasy, I was so turned on I couldn’t resist her anymore. I pushed hard inside her to satisfy what we both wanted—what we both needed. I joined my voice with hers as she chanted my name, our bodies caught in a passionate, delightful dance.

She was mine.

Chapter 4

Days went by. Esmeralda no longer tried to run away. Her defiant stance changed, and she became joyful and determined. She seemed content with her life at the manor and routinely asked me to drink her blood. The more she enjoyed herself, the more addictive her blood became. I was getting drunk from her nectar daily, surrendering myself to her as she sang my name.

I was pleasantly surprised when she asked me to sleep in my bed. I hadn’t considered this option at first, having been used to sleeping alone for hundreds of years. From the first night she slept with me and I felt the warmth of her body against mine, I knew I wanted her to stay. Even more so when the sheets became saturated in her scent. I moved her things into my room, sharing my personal space with her in a way I’d never done before—it felt so natural.

Although I needed less sleep than humans, I went to bed at the same time as my pet. I’d wait for her to fall asleep and listen to her gentle breathing for hours, entranced.

I was still amazed to realize how these things and her had been missing from my life, without me even knowing. It was like breathing for the first time after being submerged by the violent waves of a mad sea; the warmth of the sun’s first rays on your skin after a long winter. Getting a pet had changed me forever, for the better.

After all those centuries, Esmeralda was the first to whom I opened my secrets and demons to. It felt natural to talk to her. As I opened up more, she started doing it too. Understanding where she came from felt great, and I appreciated her even more. She had been through a lot, but she was a fighter.

I would leave during the day to go work on making the next piano order or repairing a noble’s instrument. Esmeralda was always eager to see me come back in the evening. It had become one of my favorite moments of the day, and I realized I could get used to living a happy, simple life.

This morning, I awoke early. The sun had barely risen, and I found our room still engulfed by the night’s shadows. At my movement, Esmeralda stirred.

“Do we have to get up?” she groaned.

I kissed her lips as I stroked her soft hair.

“Go back to sleep. I’m working early. I’ll see you later.”

Her lips tugged upward as she rolled over and went back to sleep. I admired her beauty. She didn’t need makeup and jewelry, and I smiled to myself, thinking how lucky I was to have her with me.

I left early for my customer’s place. I had plans in mind as it was a special day. Esmeralda had told me a few days ago that her birthday was coming up. I had feigned indifference, but the reality was that I had prepared a surprise. She had often told me how much she missed swimming in lakes and rivers, so I had booked a cabin at Sleeping Lake, a few hours away by flying. We’d both spend a few days there alone. My heart beat with anticipation at the idea of basking with her without obligations. I had mentally noted all her favorite activities. I was even ready to try and dance with her, even if I was inexperienced and clumsy. With her, I felt I could accomplish anything.

I stopped at a flower stand on my way home from work. Flowers of every color were available, from the most common to the most obscure. I knew she liked white lilies. I found them easily, with their characteristic long, delicate white petals enhanced by reddish spots in the center.

“I’d like these.” I pointed and looked at the seller. “But I don’t know what else to add.” Flowers weren’t my thing, and I hoped the vampire in front of me would be better arranging a bouquet.

“What’s the occasion?” he asked. “A birth? A wedding? A special person?”
