“I don’t know who the Mad Hatter is in this Wonderland you mention, but why would she say that?” he inquires as he stands and holds out his hand for me to take.

“Because I remind her of someone,” I confess, letting him pull me up.

He smiles down at me as he pushes a few strands of hair out of my face. “It does sound like you’ve been through a lot in the short amount of time you’ve been out of my sight. Is now a good time to say…”

I squint my eyes at him in warning. “I swear Knots… I still have my knife on me,” I growl out as he pins my arms against my body.

“But you really don’t know how to use it properly.” He smirks before he nibbles on my bottom lip. “And you need me now. So much that… I told you so!” he yells before letting go of me suddenly, making me lose my balance.

“KNOTS!” I scream as I catch myself on the wooden shelf.

He runs around the partition and into the bedroom, screaming like a little girl. I can’t help but laugh at his antics as I run after him. I quickly hop over the broken pieces of the marble counter, which Knots must have landed on when I pulled them here, before running into the bedroom.

Knots is opening the door when he spots me and screams again, running out and laughing. This crazy man, he cracks me up. I end up catching him when he gets to the fork at the end of the hall. Left leads to God knows where, and right leads back to the parlor room.

The room shakes, and Knots grabs a hold of me with wide eyes while I sigh and throw my head back. “That was me,” I confess. “I can’t wait to get out of here so that stops happening.”

“Dirty thoughts?” Knots’ eyebrow raises in question.

“For Hell, it was.” I laugh.

A scream sounds from the left, and we turn to find a naked Chester running out of a room. When he sees us, his expression turns hopeful.

“Knots! Get your sword! Kill it! Kill it,” he screams. My eyes—I don’t know where to look, at Chester or the ceiling, but I don’t want to miss what he’s talking about. Hopefully, Moni will forgive me for getting an eye full of Chester’s manhandle. Behind Chester is an Arte Demon waddling after him with a pile of fabric and a green satchel.

Knots pulls his sword free of wherever he hides it, but I grab his arm. “Wait! Trust me. It’s harmless.”

Chester slides behind Knots and white knuckles his biceps, screaming at the top of his lungs for him to kill it now.

“Chest, it’s harmless. See!” I point to the ugly ass Demon.

“Harmless? There were hundreds of them in a room, and as soon as they saw me, they started to swarm. The only way I could get out was to shift and climb the walls and ceiling to get here. Then that one has been following me the entire way. Kill it!”

Sighing, I pat Knots’ arm and step forward to meet the little guy, who's wearing shorts… He kinda reminds me of Alf and Pete the dragon if they had a damn baby. Kneeling, I take the fabric and sack the Arte Demon hands me.

“Thank you,” I say, trying to smile.

“Oep'gl lbseal.” It nods and starts waddling back the way it came.

I hold up the items in front of me, and Knots throws his head back, laughing as Chester turns bright red, everywhere. He approaches me and takes his clothes and glasses back. I turn to face Knots, giving Chester some privacy while he changes into his clothes.

“This looks a little girlie to be your bag,” I say, observing the dirty green sack with faded flowers dotted along it.

“That’s because it’s Moni’s emergency pack,” he explains in a muffled voice while he pulls on his shirt.

“What would she need in an emergency?” Knots questions, sharing a look with me. I shrug but relinquish the bag when Chester motions for it.

“Thanks,” he says shyly as he throws the bag over his shoulder.

“You’re welcome,” I tell him, patting him on the shoulder as I pass, keeping my eyes locked above the equator even though he’s completely dressed now.

Knots pulls me into a quick hug as Chester adjusts his glasses.

“What did it say to you?” Chester nervously asks as he looks briefly down the hall he came from.

I shrug. “I have no idea, but I assume it said: You’re welcome.” The guys give me incredulous looks, so I explain how Levi had to interpret a small conversation between me and one at dinner.

“That makes sense,” Chester agrees, pushing up his glasses.
