‘Yeah, I’m okay. I've been feeling a little off, but I’m sure it’s just from being pulled here and that I didn’t know it was possible.’ He gives me a reassuring smile.

‘Are you sure that’s all? You’d tell me if it was something else, right?’ I persist.

‘Promise!’ he leans over and kisses me on the head. ‘Now, let’s find these ingredients so I can get my memories back, shall we?’

Zissa stops in front of a stall where a couple of Goblins pop up behind the counter. One is tall with a bluish hue, a pot-belly, and beady eyes, while the other one is short and fat with stubby legs. They kinda remind me of the Arte Demons.

“Hello. What can we do for you?” the tall, older one asks.

Levi steps forward and hands over his sheet of paper. “Do you have any of these ingredients here?”

“And Coffee,” Moni piques up.

The Goblin studies the paper and, with squinted eyes, surveys our group. “How do you plan on paying?” he barks out with a gruff tone.

Well, let’s see how this works.

I step up to him and immediately regret it as I choke back the impulse to gag. The stench of him reminds me of rotten fish. My eyes start watering as I try to breathe through my mouth.

“Well, come on, girlie. I don’t have all damn day. Hand over your arm.” He huffs and grabs my arm, yanking it toward him.

I yelp as his dry and calloused hand scratches my skin. “Oh, stop it. It doesn’t hurt that bad,” he mocks as he runs his other hand over my arm, turning it roughly, trying to find where my brand is at.

If the fucker would have just asked, I would have told him. I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing.

I can tell the moment he sees it because he drops my arm as if it’s burnt him, and he starts visibly shaking as he gawks back up at me with wide eyes. His jaw wobbles before his gray tongue comes out to wet his disgusting, cracked lips.

“I… I apologize… We’ll get you what you want,” he says, smacking his partner and handing him Levi’s list without breaking eye contact with me. “I’m not sure if we have everything on that list, but… I–I’ll double check.” He turns and moves urgently behind his boxes. I assume to work on Levi’s list.

Levi gently grabs my arm and looks at it. “Are you okay?” he asks, seeing the small scratches and droplets of blood pooling.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” I reassure him. “Just scratches from his skin.”

Zissa steps up and peeks over his shoulder to look intently at my arm before yelling over the counter. “What kind of Goblin are you?”

The taller one turns with a frown, but when he sees what the commotion is, he pales. “Ahh. I—” his eyes dart to the left for a moment. “I didn’t think I broke the skin,” he protests as he looks at me.

“Yeah, yeah. Answer the question,” Zissa urges.

The Goblin eyes Zissa before he turns and darts out the back of his stall.

“Shit,” Zissa hisses and takes off after him, with Ryker right behind her. Knots jumps over the counter and pulls his sword, bringing it up to the chunky Goblin's neck and clucks his tongue to make sure he doesn’t try anything sneaky.

“Don’t move, Rez,” Knots instructs, while Levi still has a hold of my arm. I wasn’t planning on it.

Moni pops up to her four-foot self and sits on the counter. “Am I missing something? We haven’t gone over the Goblin chapter in school yet.”

Yeah, I’m also lost.

“What type of Goblin are you and your friend?” Knots kindly asks as he presses the sword tip deeper into the neck of the chubby side-kick.

“Hercules,” he hiccups, and tears stream down his face. “We couldn’t turn it down. The price was too great,” he sobs.

What the hell is going on?

“Since you’re in a chatty mood, why don’t you tell me where the antidote is,” Knots presses.

“Why would we have the antidote?” he sniffles, and Knots pushes the sword harder into his neck, causing the Goblin to lean back into the boxes behind him, toppling them over.
