Stefania’s eyes glow a little brighter as she takes back her cigarette. “Then you need to mark your territory.” She takes another long drag and exhales a long plume of smoke. “There’s a stray in there sniffing around your woman.”

Instant hackles rising.

Instant fists clenching.

I burst into the restaurant to find Wren leaning away from a gangly young man, who’s pulled a chair up to hers. She’s smiling uncomfortably and shaking her head, but he doesn’t seem to be getting the message.

Maybe he’ll get mine.

He’s so engrossed in Wren that he doesn’t notice me until I’ve grabbed the collar of his shirt and yanked him right out of his seat. “What the?—”

His exclamation dries on his tongue when he sees who’s taken hold of him.

“Lost, little boy?” I snarl in his face, smoke wreathing every word.

“S-sorry!” he stammers. “I w-was… I thought…”

Wren gets to her feet, anxiety dancing across her face. “Dmitri, let him go.”

“Oh, I wouldn’t get involved, dear,” Stefania advises as she steps back into the restaurant and starts drawing down the blinds. “Best to let your man handle it.”

“The question is, can you handle it?” I spit in the mudak’s face.

He shakes his head vehemently. “I’m s-sorry. I’ll stay away. P-p-please!”

“Dmitri!”

I shove him away from me hard and he lands on his ass on the floor. He scrambles around immediately and races to the exit, his shoes sliding across the floor in a cartoonish escape. The door swings open and he’s gone, leaving behind nothing but a cold draft from the threshold and an angry crackle in my knuckles.

Wren is staring at me with her mouth hanging open but Stefania looks not bothered in the least as she pulls down the last blind and heads over to the spiral staircase. “Enjoy the rest of your evening, kids,” she says with a maternal smile. “Lock up before you leave. Wren, tesoro—” Wren turns to her distractedly as she finishes, “—it was a pleasure meeting you.”

After she disappears upstairs, Wren turns her disbelieving expression on me. “What was that? It was totally harmless. He was just?—”

I get in her face, my hand curling around her hip. “Nothing is harmless about a man flirting with you like that.”

“Why?” she demands, bristling tall. “Because I’m yours?”

My lips curl up into a smile. A startled gasp escapes her lips when I push her backwards onto the table we just ate dinner off of. I shove her legs apart and pull her panties down as her pupils dilate.

“Precisely. because you’re all fucking—” I thrust inside her hard, twisting her frown into a smile. “—mine.”

WREN

Three days later and I’m still sore from the restaurant sex with Dmitri.

But that doesn’t mean I’m not capable of walking on my own.

I rip my arm out from under Aleksandr’s hand. “What’s the damn problem? I’m just getting out of the car!” He tries to grab me again, but I swat him away. “Aleks! Seriously.”

“Do not get out of the car until I come around with an umbrella,” he orders.

Rolling my eyes, I unlock the door. “It’s just a little rain. I’m not gonna melt if I?—”

Blip.

“Did you just lock me back in?”
