Jared bends down and picks up a gift basket, showing it to Willow.

There’s a pause, and then the sound of the door clicking shut and opening again. And that's when everything happens. The three of them lunge forward, pushing their way inside.

“No, no, no!” Dane shouts, but there’s no point. This happened hours ago.

“What the fuck!” Tears sting my eyes when I hear Aubrey shouting.

“What's going on?” Ledger asks. “We can’t see shit.”

My eyes bore into the screen, heart pounding, stomach lurching. We can’t hear or see anything for a good minute. The longest minute of my life. And then someone is coming into view.

“Aubrey,” Ledger’s voice breathes. She’s slung over one of the guys’ shoulders as he jogs with her down to their car, one of the others running ahead of him.

And then a second later, the guy named Jared comes into view. He has Willow, hand over her mouth.

“I’m going to fucking kill them!” Dane roars, swiping something off the desk, it goes crashing to the ground.

We watch as they shove Willow into the car next and speed off down the road.

I’m calm, eerily calm. Or maybe I’m in shock? I turn to look at Dane. “Why would the sons of Tony’s boss be after Willow?”

“I don’t know!” he shouts. “I don’t fucking know!”

“Then you better fucking find out!” I yell back. “Because those fuckers just kidnapped our mother fucking omega and beta!”

I’m spiraling, I feel like the ground beneath my feet vanished and now I’m free falling without a sign of stopping. My Willow, my Aubrey. My heart. “If they touch a fucking hair on their heads, I’m going to gut them like a fucking fish,” I say with heaving breaths.

Dane’s attention is on me, a hard look in his eyes. “I’ll be right there alongside you.”

Chapter Forty-Two

LEDGER

I don’t know why, but there’s something about the Johnson brothers that triggers a sense of familiarity. Where do I know them from?

With a heavy sigh, I collapse onto the couch in the guys’ office, feeling the soft fabric against my skin and the tension in my temples intensifies.

“What are you doing?” Nash asks.

“I know them from somewhere.” Racking my brain for any familiar connections. “I know I do. Just can’t figure out where.”

Nash nods in silent agreement, giving me the space I need to process and work through this on my own. Chandler, Dane, and him continue to argue, their voices growing louder with each passing second. The three of them are in disagreement on how to proceed from here.

“What do you suppose their intention is in stealing an omega? Surely they can’t think they can keep her and make her theirs. She already has four mate marks. So what’s the point?” Dane asks.

Like a ton of bricks, it hits me, and I spring from the couch in an instant. “Holy fuck! I know them!”

“You said that already,” Chandler growls, his voice dripping with annoyance. “Care to elaborate?”

“Sal Johnson is a friend of my parents. He’s an uptight prick and his sons, from what I can remember, are just as bad. With a sense of entitlement, they seize whatever they desire, disregarding the consequences. Well, not that there would ever be any.”

“Why do you say that?” Nash asks.

“You made the right call, not involving the police,” I commend them. “Sal’s brother is the Director of the State Police. The moment it went across the radio, he would have immediately shut it down or impeded the investigation. We’re on our own.”

Nash curses under his breath, frustration evident as he slams his head against the bookshelf behind him.

“So what do we do?” Anxious, I begin to pace the floor in front of their desk, my footsteps creating a rhythmic pattern.
