“Alright. Here you guys go.” I hand them each a bottle and take a seat next to Dane on the couch across from where Tony is sitting in the recliner.

“Okay, cut the bullshit. What’s going on with you two? You both look healthy, so did one of you get fired? Are you breaking your bond? What’s up?” Tony asks, getting right to the point.

“No. No. Nothing like that,” Dane assures him. He looks at me, then back to Tony with a sigh. “Umm, we’ve been distant because we recently found out something big and we weren’t sure how to handle it. We’ve been dealing with it on our own and we planned on telling you, but so far there hasn’t been a good time to speak with you,” Dane rambles. I can tell he’s as nervous as I am about this whole thing.

I can’t let my mate suffer through this and be the one to take the lead. It’s my job to make his life easier and right now, I’m doing a shitty job.

Tony looks at us confused, brows furrowed. “I-I’m not understanding. What news could possibly make you stop talking to all of your friends and bolt out of the barbecue a few weeks back? And don’t even tell me you were sick. I might have believed that if I heard from you after, but you left the yard like your asses were on fire and have been avoiding us all like the plague since.” Tony sets his beer on the table beside him and crosses his arms as he waits for one of us to tell him our secret.

“Y-You see…” Dane begins, I give his leg a squeeze to cut him off. He’s always been the more dominant one and definitely the asshole of our duo, so I make the irrational decision to just rip the bandaid off.

“We left the barbecue because we found our omega, our scent match.” Tony’s eyes widen, and I cringe at the excited look in his eyes. “It’s Willow. We got the hell out of there and we’ve been trying to figure out what the hell we’re gonna do,” I tell him in a rush, knowing I need to get this all out now before I chicken out.

Tony sucks in a shocked breath. He leans forward, bracing his forearms on his thighs, narrowing his eyes at me, almost like he’s trying to gauge if I’m blowing smoke up his ass or not. We lock eyes and stare each other down for what seems like ages, but in reality, it’s closer to a minute before he breaks eye contact and drops his face into his hands.

“I need a minute,” he whispers, just sitting there with his head in his hands.

I nod before turning my gaze to Dane. His dark eyes are full of sorrow, and his soft thin lips are downturned. “It’s gonna be okay, baby. We did the right thing. No matter what, we have each other,” I purr into his ear as I lean close, so only he can hear me.

He grabs my hand, squeezing it before turning to look at me. Our foreheads touch as we sit and wait for Tony to say…whatever it is he needs a moment for.

“You mean to tell me that my sweet, freshly turned eighteen-year-old, baby girl is your omega? My best friends for the last twenty plus years are chomping at the bit to fuck my little princess?” he growls, and when I turn my gaze to him, I can see how red and angry his expression is. The vein at the side of his neck is pulsing as he speaks, and his fingers are digging into the plush fabric of the chair.

“I wouldn’t put it like that. But yes, she is our omega. When she came down to give you your gift at the party. The wind blew as she left, we smelled her and knew instantly. That’s why we immediately got up and left,” Dane explains, defending our actions.

“There is no need to be defensive, Dane. Tony knows these things aren’t by choice. It’s literally fate or the universe, whichever you wanna believe in.” I pat my mate’s thigh again, reassuring him.

“You two will be nowhere near my daughter. This can’t be fucking happening. Her mother is going to have a fit. You’ve taken the only chance Willow has of finding her mates and ruined it!” he roars the last part as he stands up and begins to pace the room.

“We didn’t ruin anything. It’s not like we woke up that day and said wow, the smell of strawberry cheesecake really does it for us. We should make Tony’s daughter our omega. I can’t wait for the girl whose diapers we changed to take my knot,” I bark at him.

“Don’t you dare talk about her like that. You're disgusting. She is twenty-four years younger than you. What was the plan here? Steal her away in the middle of the night and her family would be none the wiser?”

“Of course not. Do you think we wanted this? We feel terrible about it. There was never any intention of acting on it at all. Why do you think we’ve been avoiding you? It’s why we’re here telling you and not her,” I tell him, and Dane’s leg starts to bounce.

“You won’t tell her. She will be attending Calling Wood. She can find a pack there, even if they’re not her scent match. She’ll be happy and thrive at school where she belongs. Not here as some broodmare to my buddies,” Tony’s voice quivers, and he collapses back into the chair as a sob wracks his body.

Dane bolts from his spot on the couch and crosses the room to our friend. “It’s gonna be okay, Tony. We don’t think of her like that. She’s our niece in every sense of the word. We planned on forgetting all about it and just staying the two of us. She can go to Calling Wood and live her best life with people her own age.” He rubs Tony’s back as he reassures him.

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said those things to or about you. I know you don’t have a choice in matches. But fuck! My baby girl? Really?”

“She doesn’t know, right? She hasn’t said anything, that she smelled or noticed us too?” I question.

“No. She hasn’t said a word. Just been hanging out at home and talking about how excited she is that she’s an omega, and can't wait to leave for school when it’s her time. She can’t ever know. When she comes home for visits, you have to stay away. I’ll tell Trina and the guys, so we’re all on the same page. Hopefully, when she comes home from school for good, she’ll have a pack and you guys won’t matter. No offense.” Tony wipes his eyes with the back of his hand.

“None taken,” I murmur in reply, rolling my eyes.

“I better go. I need to think about this more and while I am sorry, I’m still pissed. Can’t do anything about it, but it’s still fucked up.” He stands and rushes toward the front door. “I’ll talk to you guys later.”

“Tony!” I call as I stand at the door he just rushed out of and watch him hurry down the front walk.

“Yeah?” He turns around to look at me.

“Take care of her,” I tell him, my heart breaking because no matter how fucked up this whole thing is, she’s ours. And we can never have her.
