Speaking of Dad. “There's another reason I wanted to talk to you,” I tell her, my belly filling with nerves as I wonder if she’s going to get upset when I tell her about Chandler and Dane.

“Okay. What's going on?”

“While I was down to see Wesley in the hospital. The reason I didn’t come right away wasn’t because I had the flu.” I chew on the inside of my cheek.

“You didn’t?” she asks, sounding confused. “Then why did you take a few days to come visit?”

“Because… Because I was in heat.” My cheeks flush. “It started as soon as I got home.”

“Oh, honey!” she gasps. “And all by yourself?”

“Ah, no.” My cheeks flame hotter. “I had help.”

“Who? Did that pack you’ve been seeing come with you?”

“No… Ah, not them.”

“Then who?”

“Chandler and Dane.” I wince as the line goes quiet. “Mom?”

“Really?” she whispers. “How on earth did that happen?”

She seems genuinely surprised. I don’t think she knew about them being my scent match. “They came to check on me. I was already starting to slip into the haze. I think if they could, they would have turned around and left.”

“And why couldn’t they leave?”

“Because they’re my scent match, and well… I’m sure you know the rest.”

“Oh my,” she whispers. “Really? Your scent match? That's… wow.”

I relax onto the couch. She didn’t have any idea. That makes me happy. At least my mom hasn’t been lying to me all these years. I would have been crushed if she had been.

I’m not going to mention Dad knowing. I don’t want to ruin the good news about my brother. She’s already been through so much.

“You're not mad? About them being my alphas?”

“What? No. I think it's wonderful. It’s rare to find your scent match. Chandler and Dane are good men.”

“You don’t think them being older than me is weird?”

“Not at all. I think having older alphas is great. They will take care of you and they have good careers,” she says matter-of-factly. “Does that mean you're coming home?”

“No, Mom,” I sigh. “I’m not. I’m still not sure how Chandler and Dane fit into my life. I, ugh, I actually went to the dean today with Aubrey, Nash, and Ledger. We filed as an official pack.”

“Oh my god! That's amazing. I’m so happy for you, sweetheart.”

“Really?” my voice cracks with emotion. “You're not mad?”

“Why do you keep thinking I’d be mad,” she asks me.

“Well, Dad kept me on such a short leash since I presented as an omega. He was so… controlling,” I admit.

She lets out a heavy sigh. “I know. And I didn’t like it. But I understood it. This world isn’t the safest for omegas. He just didn’t want to see you get hurt. That school has been perfect for you. You were able to find a pack in a safe environment. As for Chandler and Dane, I don’t know how you're going to make it work, but I have faith in you. Let’s just not tell your dads about it yet. Not until you know more for yourself.”

“Good idea.” I laugh, even though at least one of my dads already knows who Chandler and Dane are to me. I don’t want to know what he would do if he knew I’ve found out for myself.

We say our goodbyes and hang up. I join the others in the kitchen, stopping in the doorway. A smile stretches across my lips as I see the three of them laughing and smiling as they work together to cook.
