“Mallory, that's none of your business,” Richard booms.

She looks at her husband and shrugs. “I was curious. He’s a good-looking man. Maybe he has a hooker that he’s into?”

The room goes deadly silent. I can tell that my parents are not happy about the comments being made, but they won’t say anything. They need this marriage to work as much as Mallory and Richard do. This marriage will make sure that my Da’s business and Richard’s intertwine even more than they already are.

“I don’t have a specific whore that’s mine, but do have a few on call,” I say into the silence letting everyone know Mallory will not best me.

As I finish my words, I look at Suri. I see a flash of sadness and jealousy come across her face. I’m glad to see that she can feel something other than the numbness she projects. The fact that it’s about me only makes the victory better. But I also feel like a dick. A lying sack of shit. I try to implore to her with my eyes that it isn’t true but she keeps hers downcast on an imaginary speck on the floor.

Suri stands up quickly, smoothing her dress down. Her soft voice hits my ears. “Um, excuse me. I need to use the bathroom.” She rushes out of the room quickly, never looking back.

Fuck.

My father clears his throat. I can tell by his body language that he wants to steer the conversation back to the marriage. “Shall we discuss the wedding now or do we need to wait for Suri?”

Mallory casually responds waving her hand in the air. “We can let Suri know later. She doesn’t care about these things anyway.”

With that remark, they start discussing a date for the wedding. My head starts to throb as the voices of the room all start talking at the same time. Needing to get away from this as quickly as possible, I get up to see where Suri went.

“Where are you going, Brendan?” Kieran asks.

I turn to him making sure he can’t see the turmoil on my face. I see the suspicious look on his face as I mutter, “I’m going to smoke.”

Walking down the hall, I take a detour away from the patio and head toward the bathroom, toward Suri. As I place my hand on the knob, the door suddenly yanks open. I see my opportunity and I take it.

“What are y-“

“Shh.” I push her back into the bathroom before she can finish her protest. In the middle of the bathroom with my body up against hers, she looks at me with her mouth hanging open. I brush my lips over her ears whispering, “If you don’t close your mouth, you might find my cock in it.”

Those words seem to shake her out of her stupor and she sneers at me as she pushes against my chest, “What are you doing? We can’t get caught together.”

I don’t let her push me away. I need her to feel it. The pull. The spark. The chemistry between us. I move my body to block her more. I grab one of her curls and pull it down as I watch her chest heave and face flush. “We need to talk, princess.”

Chapter six

Suri

Frozen in time, I can’t seem to move my body. Like I’m drugged with my body paralyzed but my mind reeling. Reeling at least a hundred miles a minute with the thoughts of Brendan, his cock, and my fiancé and family just down the hall. I’m just standing there with my mouth hanging open. Trapped between all kinds of right and wrong.

Snapping my jaw shut, I narrow my eyes at him and close my mouth as my body heats up from his words. I put my hands on his chest again and half-heartedly push against him as I stutter out, “P-please.”

If I allow Brendan to get any closer, I won’t be able to walk away from him. We can’t be together, no matter how much we want it. Hell, I’m engaged to his brother! The ring on my finger gleams in the light reminding me of the responsibility that sits heavy on my shoulders.

I can feel the anger rolling off of him. Good I need his anger. Anything less will be unacceptable. He might think there's hope if he’s not hating me. I lock my eyes with him straightening my shoulders and I snap, “We don’t need to talk. You need to let me out of here.”

I am surprised that my voice sounds so even and strong. Strong is not how I’m feeling right now. Brendan ghosts his lips over mine. My hands stay on his chest not sure if I’m trying to push him away or pull him closer. Before I can make up my mind, his lips crash down on mine.

He pushes down on them hard, punishing me. I suppose in a way he is. I’m the one who walked away from us. I can’t stop my body from reacting. It has a mind of its own and it's always wanted Brendan. He brushes his hands up my sides causing my nipples to pebble with anticipation. Lightly brushing against each nipple, he keeps moving his hands up, tangling his hands into my hair. Getting lost in him, I open up my mouth giving him the access that he wants.

Grabbing the back of my neck, he pushes his tongue deeper into my mouth. He tastes like cinnamon and nicotine just like I remember. It’s been four years but my body hasn’t forgotten one bit of him. It’s like no time has passed and forever has gone by in the same instant. My legs wrap around his waist as I pull myself into him, trying to get as close as possible. His hard cock rubbing against the outside of my panties, I can feel myself getting wetter. He starts to grind more into me when someone knocks on the door.

It’s as if a bucket of cold water has been splashed on top of us. We pull away from each other as a second knock comes.

“Suri, what are you doing in there? You’ve been gone for a while,” my Dad’s deep voice calls through the door.

“Just a minute, Dad. I’m finishing up.”

“Well, hurry up. We’re waiting on you for dinner.” I hear his footsteps getting farther away from the door. Not wanting to deal with the emotions that I have at the moment, I turn my back to Brendan.
