I park my Lamborghini in front of a nondescript building with a sign that reads, The Tower. This is it. Turning off the car, I head inside. I made sure to show up a little bit early. I’ve never been here before. I wanted to check it out before Zeev arrived.

Inside the bar, the atmosphere is calm with only a few other patrons, two of them sitting at the bar and two other groups stationed at tables on opposite sides of the bar. It’s just your run of the mill location full of “normal” people. This is perfect.

I head toward the back where a blonde woman behind the bar looks up at me, giving me a friendly greeting, “Welcome. Feel free to find a seat anywhere and I’ll be over to grab your drink order.”

I nod my head in thanks, taking a seat at a booth in the back of the room. With a view of the whole bar, and no one around us, I’m confident we’ll be able to meet in private. It will be easy to know if someone tries to sneak up on us while we are talking. Zeev and Jake, his right-hand man, walk in and sit down.

“Hey, guys.”

“Mikhail. We’ve found some information for you,” Zeev says, getting right to the point. That’s what I like about him, he’s not one to pussy foot around.

I nod, “Brian has intel that we all could have possible rats in our organizations, and they are the ones who are stealing weapons.”

Brian is the head of the Irish Mafia. Furrowing my brow, I take in this new information. I need to smoke out whoever could be giving away our secrets. We don’t do rats.

“Do we know who they’re working for?”

“Not yet.”

Pulling out my phone, I start to make note of all the things that I need to do to make sure this situation doesn’t get more out of hand. I pull up Sergei’s contact so that he can help look into all of this. But before I can call him, a feminine voice interrupts, “Sorry to bother you but what can I….” Her voice trails off.

I look up and see her and Jake locked in an intense stare, neither of them saying a word. Zeev clears his throat, seeming to break whatever the hell was going on between them. She shakes her head. “I’m sorry…I can’t...” Running off before she even finishes her thought.

“Shit, I can’t believe it,” Jake says but I don’t think he’s talking to us.

“Jake, what was that?” I ask. But he doesn’t answer me, just gets up and goes after the woman without saying a word.

Across the table, Zeev looks just as confused as I feel.

“What do you think that was about?”

“I don’t know, but I’ve never seen Jake chase after a woman before.”

Needing to get the meeting back on track I return to the situation at hand. “Okay, well. I will talk to my father and our contacts to see what else we can find out about the rats.”

Tapping my knuckles on the table, I stand up and leave The Tower behind. Fuck, now I really do need to find the mystery woman from last night before anyone else does.

Waking up this morning, I’m still not sure how to feel about everything that went down last night, other than the fact that I had the best sex of my life. But I am still in shock about finding my step-mother at some auction, seeing Mia go behind closed doors to do god knows what, and I never even saw Leah.

I thought going to the party last night would give me answers. Instead, I just walked away with more questions. If I want to know more about what is happening, I’m going to have to look for the answers myself.

With a feeling of determination, I pop out of bed and get ready for the day. I put on my black leggings and tank top to ensure I’m comfortable while snooping in the house. One good thing about growing up in this old house, I know all the hidden passageways. Making it easy to get around without being seen.

I head downstairs to the kitchen to see if anyone is home. If anyone is here, they will come down to grab breakfast. The house is really quiet, and no one is moving around which just confirms my suspicions that none of them came home last night.

I pull out the ingredients to make myself an omelet. If anything, I’ll get to eat in peace and eat what I want. Placing my phone next to me on the counter, I turn on my Spotify playlist and start cooking. The music allows me to forget everything. When I’m moving my body to the beat, I forget that my father is sick and, in the hospital, that the step-witches are up to something and that I’ve never felt anything like I did last night with any man before.

My mind drifts to the mystery man and how it felt when his rough hands ran all over my body, touched my nipples, and played my clit like an instrument. He even took my ass in one of our rounds, something I’ve never done before. But I ran. I snuck out in the middle of the night and now the sadness is trying to take me down, but I can’t let it.

Since no one has made an appearance, I finish eating and muster the courage to try and find the answers I need. Going up the back staircase hidden in the kitchen, I arrive directly to the wing where my step-sisters have their rooms.

Weighing the pros and cons, I decide to search Mia’s room first. Hers seems to be safer than my step-mom's room, Leah’s room, or the office. If I get caught, I’ll just pretend to be cleaning something.
