"I'm not as strong as you, Myrina. I allowed my inner fire to be destroyed. It almost cost me my life. If it hadn't been for Lucifer, I wouldn't have been around for a long time. Every day anew, he gives me the strength I need to survive. To shake off the demons of my past."

Zuri seemed to have experienced something terrible. Even though she didn't want to give me any details, I could feel her pain.

"Lucifer is a good man." She carefully placed her hands on my shoulders, making me feel like she was looking into my soul. "He's not always easy, but he has his heart in the right place." She sighed before lowering her arms and looking back at his bedroom door. "He's important to me. That's why I want him to be happy." It was more of a whisper, but it still rang in my ears like a thunderclap.

Zuri opened the door we had stopped in front of and pushed me into a comfortably furnished bedroom with a four-poster bed and a beautiful view of the valleys surrounding the estate.

She took a fluffy pink towel from the wardrobe and a dark blue dress less provocative than the one she was wearing, for which I was grateful.

"Here's the bathroom. If you need anything, just let me know." She pointed to another door, behind which I could hear the sound of water.

I walked towards it, and when I opened it, I didn't know what to say. It was even more magnificent than Tanael's. In the middle of the room was a pool fed by a waterfall that sprang directly from a rock face. The water smelled wonderfully of roses, and I couldn't wait to enter the inviting water.

Nevertheless, I turned back to Zuri, who had already stepped out into the corridor.

"Zuri!" I said, trying to sound firm. "Don't worry, I won't come between you."

She looked at me questioningly.

"Between you and Tanael. I'm not going to impose. Don't worry."

Zuri's eyes widened, but I quickly closed the bathroom door before she could answer. With my hand still on the doorknob, I stopped and took a deep breath.

Why was it so difficult for me to say these words?

With a groan, I pushed myself away from the door. I removed my makeshift knife belt and panty as I walked to the pool.

When I finally dived headfirst into the water, I could feel my spirits reawakening, especially my fighting spirit.

I had already come this far; I wouldn't be distracted by some angel, god, or whatever he was.

Charly's face appeared before my inner eye. It was the one I had looked into at the gala with empty eyes and an absent look, complemented by a crouched posture.

Charly, what was done to you? And where are you being held captive?

I didn't even allow the thought that she might already be dead and rigorously pushed it away. No, Charly had to be alive, and I would find her.

I was painfully aware that I was dependent on Tanael's help. Without that, I could have turned around and walked away.

But so ... I was trapped in my confusing feelings, which Charly wasn't allowed to suffer from.

I quickly washed my hair first, then removed the dirt from the rest of my body with the lavender soap in a basket on the edge of the pool. I then climbed out of the warm water, dried myself off, and slipped into the blue dress. It fitted perfectly, even though Zuri had a different build from me. She was taller, had longer legs, and had bigger breasts.

The silky fabric enveloped me in a cool embrace. Ribbons at the front and back, resembling a corsage, held the dress together, which was tight at the top and wide at the bottom. The sleeves were made of soft tulle, and the gentle breeze caressed my skin.

Barefoot, I left the bathroom and Zuri's room without looking back. My mind was made up. I would go back into battle against the Knights of John as soon as possible to finally free Charly, Anne, and the many other women held captive by the Brotherhood. I was happy to leave John Adam Nash to the devil. Let him deal with him.

I studiously ignored the sting in my heart; it wasn't important.

So, I headed for Tanael's study, hoping to find him there.

This time, I knocked before entering the room and waited for a sign, which fortunately came from the God of First Light himself.

He was sitting at his desk, frowning and studying a document.

"Tanael!" I stormed towards him before my newfound fighting spirit could leave me again.

"Tanael, I want to talk to Aspasia, Maggy, and the other Amazons as quickly as possible," I demanded in a far too loud voice.
