"They're about to fight again."

"Or the exact opposite," someone giggled, sounding suspiciously like Sam.

But I was paralyzed, and Tanael's anger was gone. He looked at me longingly. His breath brushed hotly over my cheek; his whole body made mine come alive as if a small fire had been lit that had never been there before.

How could a male body feel so damn right and familiar? So ... so very mine. The thought overwhelmed me. I had never thought of Alex as mine. But it was different with Tanael. I wanted to tell him he was mine, and I wished I could hear him say I was his.

It was an intense feeling. I couldn't imagine anything more intimate than belonging to each other and giving someone your heart.

Completely captivated by this intoxicating thought, I lifted my head and kissed him. Shyly and gently at first, but when I tasted his own desire, I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulled him even closer to me, and kissed him with all my wild, unbridled passion.

Without thinking, I gave him everything, my heart, my soul, myself. His tongue begged for entrance, and his hands stroked the bare skin under my shirt, which he had lifted. I could feel his arousal firmly against my thigh, and it almost drove me mad. We had already reached this point too many times for us to proceed slowly or even cautiously.

I wanted him so much that it hurt. I was sure he would break my heart again, yet I couldn't keep him at a distance. It just didn't work anymore. It was almost as if I had lost control of myself, my feelings, and my mind.

Tanael broke away from my lips to continue his caresses on my neck. I eagerly arched my back and pressed my pelvis against his body. A moan that could have been mine escaped him. His tongue stroked hotly down to my collarbone while his hand made its way between my waistband and my slip. Like a volcano on the verge of eruption, my womb demanded more than his skillful fingers.

"I want you," I breathed. "All the way. Inside me. I want to feel you deep inside me." Tears came to my eyes at the thought of how we would unite like two pieces of a puzzle made for each other. My longing for him was overwhelming, yet it didn't scare me.

"I want you too, Haye. Always," he whispered, and his words hit me right in the heart, overflowing with joy, relief, and a love as deep as I had never felt before. "But -."

"Apparently, this is not the best time to visit," an amused male voice sounded behind us, interrupting Tanael mid-sentence. I flinched, startled, and the God of the First Light paused in his movement.

"What do you want, Hades?" he growled indignantly.

Hades? Embarrassed, I pushed myself out from under the angel, who could not suppress his disappointment. I hastily stood up and walked towards the God of the Underworld. Tanael followed me and stopped right behind me.

Hades grinned a spiteful grin of the gods, like I'd seen on Hecate and even Tanael. "Hiding behind her can't hide your excitement."

"Oh," it flitted through my mind, and at the thought of the naked angel, the heat shot straight to my cheeks.

"Believe me when I tell you that your imagination is nowhere near reality," Tanael's throaty voice echoed through my head. I could only say another Oh and got even hotter cheeks in response.

"Are you finally telling us what you want here?" The God of First Light sounded clearly annoyed and irritated. Did the two of them not like each other?

"I've come here personally to invite you two beauties to a meal with Persephone and me," Hades replied, turning to me. "With music and dancing, of course."

"When is this event planned for?" Tanael asked coolly.

"Tomorrow," said Hades, without taking his eyes off me. "Persephone is already looking forward to seeing you. Put on your best dress. We're going to celebrate."

Then he turned around and walked towards the portal that had just appeared.

"Oh, and Luze," he turned to the angel again. "It would be great if you didn't honor us in a jogging suit this time like you did at our last party. If not for me, then at least do it for the sake of your lovely companion."

"I'll be there and dressed appropriately," grumbled the angel behind me.

"We look forward to seeing you!" With one step, Hades had disappeared through the portal.

Silence spread between Tanael and me now that we were alone again. I kneaded my hands, embarrassed. Had Hades appeared at precisely the wrong or exactly the right time? I couldn't decide.

"I'm going to take a shower—an ice-cold shower," muttered Tanael. Before I could say anything back, he was gone too. I stamped my foot in frustration. This whole thing was getting more and more complicated.

CHAPTER 33

The house was like a beehive, in addition to our team, the group that had set out to find the missing women had also arrived and taken up residence in the beautiful villa.

We were six humans, two magical beings from Brysalia, a demon, three angels, two gods—although Tanael could just as easily be counted as an angel—and a daughter of Lilith. And they all needed bedrooms. Despite Dad wanting to stay in the Hamptons, my brothers decided to spend the night here.
