“I’m at Sebastian’s.”

She clicked her tongue. “What did he do? Do I need to kick his ass?”

“Trust me, if anyone is going to kick his ass, it’s going to be me.”

“Well, now I’m going to have N*SYNC stuck in my head, so thanks for that. Seriously, what did he do? Why are we mad at him?”

I laughed and yet the tears pricked my eyes. “He’s such an idiot.”

“All men are,” Luna agreed. “I can’t believe he made you cry. He’s no longer welcome in my club. Well, except for when something breaks. Then I definitely need him to fix it, but only because I pay him a lot of money to keep my assets safe.”

I almost laughed. “It’s fine. I won’t hold it against you.”

“Thank God. Because it would be a bitch to find someone half as good as Sebastian.”

My eyes welled. “I think so too.”

“Oh shit, I did it again. Foot meet mouth. Just ignore me. I’m here for you. What do you need?”

“Is there any way I could come stay at your place starting tomorrow? It will just be a few days, I promise.”

“I told you before. Absolutely. I can send my driver to fetch you.”

My throat constricted. “That would be great.”

“He can be there in two hours flat if I call him now,” she said, getting down to business. Luna was scary efficient, and it made me realize that she needed to be as a woman in a male-dominated industry. “I should be home by the time you arrive. The guest room is all made up, and it’s yours as long as you need it.”

I snuggled closer to Willow, a sharp pain in my chest at the thought of not seeing her every day. “Thank you, Luna.”

“Anytime, Faith. This is what friends are for.”

Luna owned a brownstone in Brooklyn. It wasn’t what I imagined the young, hip, businesswoman would call home, but then who was I to judge?

Besides, it was stunning. The exposed brick throughout the multi-level home provided a warmth you just didn’t find in the modern high rises. White couches lined an airy room, with high ceilings, and a sexy chandelier centering the space. It was delicate and feminine and strong all at once. The ultimate bachelorette pad.

Perhaps I should buy a place in Brooklyn.

Luna interrupted the errant thought by calling through the house. “I’m getting coffee from around the corner. I’ll be right back.”

It was still early morning—I managed only a few hours of sleep. Leaving Sebastian’s house had been hard. Really hard.

He found me in the atrium, packing my painting supplies. I did have two pieces remaining to get done and no time to waste.

He’d tried to stop me from leaving, saying it was hasty.

But I'd already made up my mind, and I needed to get away. Maybe being out of the same airspace as Sebastian would give me some clarity.

Sebastian insisted on bringing my finished pieces to the city. While I hated leaving them behind, I knew it would make things infinitely easier for me.

And for all my mixed emotions when it came to Sebastian Steele, I knew with certainty that in this area, he wouldn’t let me down.

My limbs were as heavy as my heart. I puttered around Luna’s kitchen searching for food when she returned. The fridge had nothing but condiments and an old, wilted salad kit that should have been tossed a week ago.

A chime sounded from the front door. “I bring sustenance,” Luna said in a sing-song voice.

“That’s good because there was no way I was going to be able to whip anything up with expired mayo, a bottle of ketchup, and half a jar of dill pickles.”
