My brother's brow furrowed. "How do you know I booked a fancy restaurant?"

"Because you're you and you can't help yourself. Remember when you ordered a steak dinner to the on-campus library because you were hungry and we were studying for finals?"

"I don't remember you complaining," Dominic grumbled.

"Not complaining, just noting your tastes."

I peered up at Sebastian, more certain than ever that he was my person for knowing exactly what I wanted at this moment. My body craved sustenance, greasy, delicious, sustenance.

The limo slowed down, and the driver announced our arrival.

"Finally," I said, lurching toward the door.

Sebastian blocked me with his long, suit-clad arm. "Me first."

FORTY-NINE

SEBASTIAN

I had made a few calls the second Dominic told me his plan for dinner.

The best part? I found a place with veggie burgers and a private room. A feat harder than it sounds.

While the gallery event went without a debacle, we weren't fully in the clear.

I wouldn't be fully content until we got back to the house, assuming Faith was coming with me.

And I absolutely loathed the swarms of people lined up outside trying to catch a glimpse of Faith and her family.

I kept my mouth shut. Not wanting to spoil her event. Tonight was about Faith and her talent, and I wasn’t going to interfere. I'd control as much as I could and try not to let my concerns for her safety distract her from actually being present.

On top of all that, I'd gotten a message from Harrison that he and his wife were delayed by bad weather leaving Florida. They wanted a nightcap with us, and I kept my fingers crossed he'd made a decision.

"This is cozy," Faith said with a smile as we took our seats, the content sound of her voice bringing me back to the here and now.

I'd booked the whole restaurant, but insisted we still use the private room. The restaurant was rustic chic, with lots of natural wood and simple accents.

The lights were dimmed and white candles in various sizes served as our centerpiece.

"I can't believe you wouldn’t let me buy a painting," Dominic complained as he took the seat next to me, Daisy taking the chair on the other side of him just as Faith sat on the other side of me. He had asked, begged really, but she didn’t want her relatives to buy all her work. That defeated the purpose of becoming an artist after all. They could be proud of her all they wanted, but she felt she had to draw some firm lines; otherwise, they’d buy up everything in the name of being supportive.

The waiter had just taken our orders when my phone chimed. I had placed it face down on the table but when two more alerts sounded, I knew I couldn't leave it unanswered.

My fingers tightened around the phone as I saw the headline.

Sebastian Steele's humble upbringing. How the billionaire went from son of a struggling single mom to one of the richest men in NYC.

"Damn it." Despite the title, I searched the article for Faith's name. That had been the trigger for the alert in the first place. I skimmed, my eyes trained to find the name of the person who'd stolen my heart without even realizing it.

Faith leaned over. "What's wrong?" She craned her neck to look at my screen. "Another article? Seriously?"

I grunted. "This one is mostly about me, but it does mention you slumming it. Again."

Then another alert popped up.

Black and blue? Is this really the love for you?

It seems that Faith might be in hot waters. Is it possible her paramour Sebastian got physical? Apparently it's not the first time. A source tells us that Sebastian was known for using his fists. Faith's best friend Brittney says she's so worried about her and that she even tried to talk her out of being with Sebastian. Maybe further intervention is needed?
