And yet, at ten on the dot, a call came through from Dimitri. I gave permission for Sebastian to come right up. I checked my hair one last time in the entryway mirror before my doorbell rang.

People didn’t usually make me nervous, but Sebastian was the exception. I wiped my hands down the front of my leggings. I tried to shove those feelings aside and just act like my normal, outgoing self.

“Good morning. Come in,” I said with a wave, keeping my voice steady.

His steely eyes collided with mine. “Morning.”

I got a good look at the man. His scruff was even scruffier, and my hand itched to run across it. He’d abandoned his usual suit for something more casual—a pair of dark denim jeans that molded to his strong legs and a vibrant blue sweater that brought out the color in his eyes.

The man was devastating in a suit, but I think I preferred him like this.

I was taller than average, but he still towered over me.

“Can I get you a coffee or anything before we leave?” I offered. My mother had always instilled manners in both me and Dominic.

“I’m fine. I have coffee for both of us in the car,” Sebastian said with no hint of a smile or any indication of how he might be feeling.

Serious Sebastian was back in the building.

The last thing I wanted was for this to be awkward. It was probably best to address the elephant in the room. “Listen, I know we haven’t really gotten to spend time together, so I hope this isn’t weird. I’m sure you weren’t exactly planning on me hitching a ride with you back to your place.”

I watched as Sebastian’s Adam’s apple bobbed.

What’s going on in that head of yours, mister?

“It’s fine. I insisted you come with me. Now let me help you with your bags.” He grabbed my largest rolling bag and an oversized duffle that I had stuffed to the brim, while I took a smaller rolling bag filled with painting supplies and my purse. With a quick glance around the room, I did a final check to see if I was forgetting anything.

It suddenly felt like I’d be away forever. We hadn’t talked about how long I’d stay with Sebastian, but I’d probably need all six weeks to finish my work.

Making sure the lights were turned off, I locked up and followed Sebastian to the car.

* * *

He drove a Tesla.

I wasn’t sure what I expected the man to drive, but it wasn’t that.

“I’ll take that,” Sebastian said with his signature scowl, not allowing me to help put my suitcase in the trunk.

“Okay, then…” I opened the door to the passenger side of the vehicle and sank down into the plush seats.

Sure enough, there were two coffees in the cupholders, and the vehicle smelled of roasted beans and sweet pastries. Yup, the guy also bought a box full of assorted pastries.

Moments later, Sebastian entered the car, and I was suddenly overwhelmed by his aftershave and the sheer size of him.

Sebastian gripped the wheel with one hand and draped his other hand over my headrest. The movement shouldn’t have me squeezing my thighs together, but there was something so manly about the way he backed out of the spot.

Get a hold of yourself, Faith.

I adjusted the temperature controls to blow cool air on my face.

We sat in silence while he pulled from my building's VIP parking lot, navigating us towards the highway that would get us out of the city. Thankfully, no one popped out of the bushes to take my photo, which felt like a lucky break especially considering I probably sported a blush courtesy of the man next to me.

For a moment I wondered if Sebastian had managed to take care of it for me somehow, but that was probably just wishful thinking.

“How far is your place from here?” I asked, sliding my sunglasses onto my face at the same time Sebastian slid his on. The reflective aviator glasses only made him sexier and more mysterious than he already was.

“It’s a solid two-hour drive. It shouldn’t be too bad since it's a Saturday.”
