"So how's Sebastian? Is he being nice?"

I had never talked to Daisy about Sebastian, so I was curious what she was picking up on. "What makes you ask that?"

Her voice changed, like she'd put me on speaker phone. "I haven't spent much time with him, but it seemed like there was an intensity between you two. And he seems a little quiet and mysterious. Not in a bad way, just a quiet protective way."

"You're reading too many romance novels in that library of yours," I teased.

"I have been reading more romance novels since I met your brother..."

"See," I said, nodding my head to myself.

"But it's more than that. There's some connection between you two. I know it. You haven't hooked up with him, have you?"

I sighed. "Definitely not."

"It wouldn't be a bad thing if you did. He’s handsome…you’re sleeping under the same roof. I mean, this story practically writes itself."

The pulse between my thighs thought it was a fabulous idea.

"Okay, so spill. What's happened since you arrived?"

I glanced back at the house but, of course, I couldn't see it this far up the trail. "The house is incredible. I love it. It's not too big, not too small. It's cozy, yet spacious. There is all this natural wood and light. And his dog!"

Willow wagged her tail next to me, as if she knew I was talking about her.

"He has a dog?"

"I was equally shocked."

"Honestly, from what Dom's told me, I figured he had a small hut in the forest and spent his days in front of the computer."

I chuckled at the image. "To be fair, he does spend a lot of time in front of his computer screens, but the house itself is no hut."

"Sounds like a dream escape."

I hummed in agreement. "And get this, he's been trying to help me figure out how to get painting again."

"How's he doing that?"

I told her all about our trail run yesterday and the trip to town today, filling her in on all the little details.

"That's really nice of him. He opened his house to you and is trying to get your painting jump-started. Damn, he wants to get in your pants."

"I wish," I mumbled.

"What was that?"

"I said, 'I wish.'"

Daisy squealed. "I knew it! You're normally all cool and easy breezy, and he seemed to get under your skin a bit."

I harrumphed. "He certainly knows how to do that."

"It's because you care what he thinks of you," she said, as if that were some sort of “aha” statement.

Our conversation paused as I considered her words.

I slowed my pace as I approached an incline. "I really need to hike more. This little trail is kicking my ass."
