“This way,” Sebastian said, placing a hand on the small of my back. The intimate touch felt like an electric shock.

He knew the bouncers and the security team. They gave him small nods as he passed.

“We’re almost there,” he said, his warm breath in my ear. I wouldn’t have minded a few more laps around the place just to keep his hand on me. My back was so close to his front that I could occasionally feel the fabric of his fitted shirt graze against my dress.

I was grateful I got to come with him and infinitely curious about this Luna character.

We entered a private VIP area, much like the one I had just been to a few weeks back even though it felt like a lifetime ago.

I immediately walked up to the railing and watched as people danced. I swept a look around to find where I had been stationed last time, trying to get oriented based on where the DJ booth sat down below.

Huh.

“How often did you say you came here?”

Sebastian sat down on the couch, ankle crossed at the knee. His arms spread along the back of the couch.

The moment of déjà vu struck like lightning.

“You were here that night,” I said.

“Yes.”

He knew what I was talking about.

I opened my mouth to ask—what, I wasn’t sure—but just then a backdoor I hadn’t noticed opened and a stunning woman walked though. She wore head to toe leather, her red hair cropped starkly at the chin. Her whole aesthetic shouted badass secret agent. Or, I guessed in her case, badass club owner.

I imagined her field was dominated by men—like most industries out there. She likely had to fight tooth and nail for everything she had and the outfit commanded attention and respect. Two things that were often hard to come by, even with all the smarts and talent in the world.

Luna spotted me first and headed straight for me.

“Faith Waters, I wasn’t expecting to see you here. Welcome to Club Deux. Let me or my staff know if there’s anything we can do for you,” she said while shaking my outstretched hand.

“Nice to meet you.”

She smiled and from the small lines that formed around her eyes, I could tell it was genuine. Then she pivoted on her high heels and faced Sebastian who had gotten up from the couch.

“You didn’t tell me you were bringing a guest. I could have had my team prepare something for her.” She jokingly pushed his arm, but I lasered in on the movement. Not loving how casually she touched him.

Get a grip, Faith. He’s not yours.

But everything inside me was screaming, mine.

Then Luna retreated a step. “You know where to go.”

“That, I do,” Sebastian said, his attention on me. “Are you coming with me?”

Luna waved him off. “You can investigate on your own. Let me know if you find anything.” Then she looked at me. “I want to get to know your friend.”

Sebastian’s mouth formed a line.

“I’ll be fine with Luna,” I assured him. “Go do your thing. The faster you work, the sooner we can get to bed.”

His eyes bulged.

“Not together, of course.”

Luna’s gaze volleyed between us.
