We’d reconvene in the foyer around four in the afternoon for a break. It allowed me to get outside one more time before the sun set. I wasn’t sure why Faith had suggested it the other day, but I welcomed the retreat and it thrilled Willow to get another walk in with both of us.

I almost didn’t notice how Faith’s leggings molded to her shapely ass or how her waist flared into her hips in her compression shirt and tight fitted jacket.

It was Wednesday night, after a particularly grueling day in front of the computer when we found ourselves walking the path away from the house.

“Are there other routes we haven’t taken yet?” Faith asked searching the property.

I pointed down the driveway. “We could take the trail near the road. It’s far enough from the street itself to be safe for us and Willow and there is a great view of the creek.”

“Sounds great.”

We started down the path, Willow wagging her tail between us.

“You really lucked out in the dog department,” Faith said, as Willow rubbed her head against Faith’s hip, and I envied her ability to casually touch the woman walking next to me.

“She’s the best.”

“Where did you get her?”

I stuffed my hands in my pockets as the cold air stung my exposed skin. “I volunteer twice a month at a local animal shelter.”

Faith whipped her head to face me, then stumbled on a rock. I immediately reached out to catch her.

“Oof,” she said as my arms wrapped around her, one hand accidentally landing on something soft. I instinctively gave it a small squeeze, then realized what I had just done.

I released my grip on her and dropped my arms to my side. “Fuck. I’m so sorry.”

Faith rubbed her chest. “Don’t be. It’s the most action I’ve seen in a while.”

My dick didn’t need to hear that.

I scanned her chest and then thought better of it. “Did I hurt you?”

She continued to rub her chest. “I’m okay. Although I think you bruised my ribs.”

I dragged a hand through my hair. “Jesus. I’m sorry.”

Faith gave a small smile. “I’m kidding. But seriously, those were some superhero reflexes. You saved me from going face first into the ground. Maybe no groping next time?” Her chest shook as she suppressed a laugh.

I picked up a stick and tossed it for Willow who willingly retrieved it. “Roger that. Next time I try stopping you from falling on your face, I’ll make sure I don’t try to get to second base.”

Eventually, Faith broke the silence. “This is lame. You copped a feel. We’re grownups. We can touch each other and not make a big deal out of it.”

I choked on my saliva. Coughing and hacking away until Faith started patting my back. Those pats turned into gentle circles that had goosebumps covering my skin. Thank god for the layers blocking them from Faith’s view.

Faith let her fingers trail the leaves of a nearby tree. "It's beautiful out here."

"Have you tried painting outside? Maybe it would provide a new perspective."

"Huh. That's not a bad idea."

I chuckled. "Thanks. Sometimes I have not bad ideas."

"It's a good quality to have," she said formally before bursting into laughter. "But seriously, I'll try taking my easel outside tomorrow and see if it helps."

"Still stuck, huh?"

She blew air out of her teeth. "Yes. I'm ready to try anything to get me back in the right headspace." I noticed her eyes trailed up and down my body as she bit her lower lip.
