I lifted a hand to touch my face.

“Take the bodyguards. It might seem extreme but it’s only temporary.”

I sighed. “Fine.”

Daisy nodded. “Very good. Now I need to get to this class before they start drawing dicks on the whiteboard.”

I cocked my head. “Isn’t this your retirement group? Not the teen group?”

Daisy stood. “Yes. And they are just as naughty as the teens. Maybe worse.” She muttered the last bit to herself. “I’ll call you soon. I need more details about Sebastian.”

I pointed a finger at her. “Don’t tell my brother.”

“But-”

“Seriously. Don’t do it.”

“As long as you tell him soon.”

“I’ll think about it.”

Willow and I returned to the house, and I wandered aimlessly. Not wanting to paint or do much of anything else. I considered binging the latest season of Bridgerton on Netflix then thought against it. I barely had the patience to sit in one place, let alone watch an hour-long episode.

Somehow I ended up in the kitchen, working on dinner. A stir fry dish with tons of vegetables. I thought about putting it over a bed of cauliflower rice and then decided Jasmine rice would taste so much better.

When the doorbell rang, I turned off the stove and set the hot pan on a cool burner. I wasn’t quite done with the meal, but wanted to see who was at the door. I wiped my hands on a kitchen towel and headed to the front door.

Sebastian beat me to it. He welcomed two men with a handshake.

“Beck, I didn’t expect you to be here too.”

A blondish man with a buzz cut and a sleeve of tattoos stepped into the foyer. He wore black skinny jeans and a fitted black tee shirt. That had to be Beck. His shoulders were wide and imposing and he spotted me instantly. I could tell he constantly scanned his surroundings.

Another man stepped inside. He was shorter than Beck and I heard him introduce himself as Sergio.

I sidled up next to Sebastian and introduced myself to both the men.

“Can we get a tour of the house and the property?” Beck asked, getting down to business. I studied the man as Sebastian led this small party around the estate. He explained his security system, although Beck seemed to know all about it already.

“We work together a lot,” Beck said with a wink. Sebastian frowned when he clocked the gesture.

“I won’t be here unless I need to fill in for whatever reason. Sergio will be here for a twelve-hour shift and then Tate will come and replace him. Sergio will brief Tate tomorrow morning once he flies in from North Carolina.”

“From that far away?” I asked, my gaze volleying between Sebastian and Beck.

Beck’s lips twitched. “Sebastian asked for the best so I’m pulling Tate off his current assignment and shifting things around.”

For the first time today I wondered if I should in fact be concerned for my safety. I had felt safe from the moment we drove on Sebastian’s property a few weeks ago. That sense of safety hadn’t wavered until this very moment.

Sebastian’s phone pinged.

Then pinged again.

“Take the damn call,” Beck said to Sebastian, then gestured at his partner. “Sergio and I will have a chat with the lovely Faith.”

Sebastian glanced between the two of us, his jaw tightening. Then his phone rang again. He answered it this time. “Hello, Luna.”

Sebastian marched down the hallway toward his office and I snuck a peek at Beck to gauge his reaction. For the first time since he’d entered the house, he frowned.
