Interesting.

Maybe I’d have a little fun with Beck while he was here. “Can I get either of you some coffee? Tea? Water?”

“Coffee would be great,” Beck said.

I directed them back to the kitchen where I proceeded to make a large pot of coffee. Sebastian liked to keep a stock from the local cafe, so I knew it would be a good brew.

“I hear we have a mutual friend,” I said as I poured us each a cup.

Sergio was scanning the windows, testing out the back door, while Beck’s attention was fully on me. “Is that so?” he asked.

“Luna Marks is a beautiful woman.” I set the creamer on the counter and watched for a reaction.

Sergio snickered from the corner where he was running a finger along the windowsill.

Beck’s smile faltered as his gaze flickered over to his colleague. “Sergio, assess the perimeter.”

Sergio couldn’t hide his smile. He saluted me and left out the back.

“No coffee for him, I take it?”

Beck leaned against the countertop. His posture was casual, but I could tell by his tense muscles that he was anything but relaxed.

“You know Luna?”

I shrugged, lifting the coffee to my lips. “I’ve met her,” I said before taking a fortifying sip of my drink.

I could tell what Luna meant by Beck being a different breed from Sebastian. While Sebastian was clean cut, handsome, with a hint of roguishness, Beck screamed bad boy with his tattoos and hard planes of his face. I’d be shocked if he didn’t own a leather jacket and a motorcycle. Disappointed even.

Beck smirked. “Is Luna going around town talking about me? I knew she couldn’t get enough.”

I’d have to ask my new friend for a detailed account of her past dealings with Beck because the way his eyes flared when I brought up her name was too good for there not to be some sort of mutual attraction there.

Sometimes love was disguised as hate.

I stowed that away for later.

“Is Sergio going to keep out of sight?” I asked, bringing us back to the matter at hand.

“Yes,” Sebastian said firmly, entering the room while sliding his phone in his pocket. The man wrapped a protective arm around my waist and pulled me into his side. I turned my head to bury myself in his shirt, not realizing how much I needed him as a touchstone.

Beck nodded in affirmation. “I want to make sure he has your number, and you have his. Sergio will monitor the perimeter and will have access to the security system to help Seb keep an eye on things.”

I turned to the man at my side. “Seb?”

He frowned. “You never call me that.”

I poked at his chest. “Can I call you Seb?”

“You can call me whatever you want,” he said, his grip tightening around my waist.

Satisfaction roiled through me. I pulled Sebastian in for a kiss when a nearby chuckle reminded me we weren’t alone.

Sebastian stepped back. “Have you gone over everything with her?”

“Yes.”

Sebastian’s eyes pierced mine but then he took another step away. “Then let’s finish this conversation in my office.”
