I raised a brow. “Sometimes?”

She chuckled.

“How’s the job going?”

A bright smile broke across her face. “It feels good. I’m tired at the end of the day, but it’s a good tired. My brain feels like its overloaded.”

I narrowed my eyes. “And that’s a good thing?”

She picked at her muffin. “It’s a great thing. I feel useful. I feel satisfied.” A slight blush crept onto her cheeks.

“Is he banging you at the body shop?”

The woman giggled like a schoolgirl.

“First of all, good for you. I’m loving everything about this for you. Get laid. Get a temp job. How does it feel to bang the boss?”

She clapped a hand to her cheeks. “You can’t say anything to Seb.”

I laughed. “I promise I won’t. But honestly, he’d be an idiot to miss this, and your son is no idiot.”

Her brow furrowed. “Maybe I should tell him I’m leaving town for a few days.”

I pointed out the window. “You can use my bodyguard as an excuse. Let him stay in the guest room at your cottage while you have your fun.”

“It’s tempting…”

I chanted. “Do it. Do it.”

She set her muffin down. “Fine, I’ll do it.”

“I’ll help you pack.”

I lowered myself into the piping hot tub, relishing the heat on my sore muscles. Those dogs gave me quite the workout and my mind reeled from the encounter with Gary and Sebastian’s subsequent reaction.

Hence the bath. Constance gifted me some lavender bath salts which I used liberally. Hell, Sebastian could probably smell it from downstairs.

Between the aroma and the candles I lit, I felt like I was in a high-end spa somewhere. The bathtub was the epitome of quiet luxury. Claw foot, free standing, gorgeous finishings. It made it feel like soaking in the bath was an experience.

I helped Constance pack and then retreated here. I suspected Beck left earlier since his truck was now gone, but I hadn’t seen Sebastian at all.

He was probably busy behind his computer.

Never mind him. Just relax, Faith.

I lowered myself further into the bath, so it was just my face above water, my hair piled high on my head.

I tried emptying my mind of everything that sent me spinning. I pressed my palms against the bottom of the tub, trying to ground myself as Gary’s reaction to me played over and over in my head like a movie.

The man didn’t threaten me, didn’t make any aggressive moves, but somehow the interaction still left me feeling itchy on the inside of my skin. The bath did nothing to cleanse me of that feeling.

I tried a few deep breathing exercises I’d learned over the years, mostly from yoga classes. Those too failed to work.

Then the floor squeaked, and I shot right up, the soapy bathwater sloshing over the sides of the tub.

Sebastian’s eyes glanced down at my chest.
