“Yes… here…” She fumbled for her ID and managed to hand it to him without dropping it. He was still holding her bag as he looked at it and gave a little nod.

“Great, come with me, ma’am.”

Ma’am? Was she old enough to be a ma’am? She was pretty sure the chauffeur was older than her.

Feeling like she was back in the same crazy dream state she’d felt when she’d seen the auction results, she followed the chauffeur down to the car, where he opened the door to let her in.

“Please sit down, Ms. Graham. My name is Tim, and I’m here to take care of you. There’s water and soda in the mini-fridge, the champagne is open and on ice. I believe you’ll be having dinner at the hotel, but if you need anything to eat on the way, just let me know, and we can stop wherever you’d like.” He grinned at her again, as though he was enjoying her reactions.

“Champagne?” Her voice squeaked. Even seeing the stretch limo, she hadn’t expected anything more than just a ride.

“That’s right. Have a seat and enjoy, ma’am.”

“Please call me Emily,” she said as she got into the car.

The seats were black leather, the interior as luxurious as any limo from a movie… and all for her. A very different experience than her prom night when she’d been crammed in with seven other teenagers, all of them vying for elbow room and giggling.

The door closed behind her, and she sank down onto the seat beside the champagne. She’d never had champagne before. Never really wanted to drink before, not after her dad… But if there was ever a time for a drink, it was now.

She was on her way to lose her virginity, after all. Liquid courage, that’s what it was called. Not something she wanted to rely on, but in this one instance…

Besides, it was open. It would be rude not to partake when it had already been opened. She wouldn’t get drunk, but maybe it would help take off some of the nerves.

Tim got into the front seat and glanced through the open partition.

“Let me know if you’d like some privacy, ma’am. There are some buttons to your right… yeah, that one right there, if you want to put the partition up, you can do it whenever you feel like. There’s also an intercom once the window is up.”

“Oh… thank you.” Emily wasn’t sure how she felt. Part of her wanted the partition up, so she could have some privacy to try to adjust to what was going on. Part of her wanted it down, so she could have some human contact and company, especially since Tim seemed nice.

She wondered if he knew what she was on her way to do.

Probably not.

Pouring herself a glass of champagne—well, more like a quarter of a glass because she somehow managed to pour mostly bubbles—Emily took a small sip. The bubbles were very bubbly, popping inside her mouth, and something about the drink made her tongue dry even though it was wet. The taste wasn’t exactly what she’d expected. It wasn’t fruity or anything, and it definitely didn’t taste like grapes, but she didn’t dislike it.

Watching the streets go by, and after a few more sips of champagne, she got up the courage to ask Tim a question.

“Are you allowed to tell me where we’re going?”

“Oh, yes, ma’am, we’re headed to the Ryder Manor.”

Emily’s jaw dropped.

As if the limo and the money he was paying her wasn’t enough… she didn’t know what she’d expected exactly. Not a seedy motel, probably, though somehow that would have felt more familiar, almost reassuring. But the Ryder? That was a wildly expensive extravagance for one night, especially after everything else he was already paying for. She didn’t know anyone who had ever stayed there. The rooms went for a thousand dollars a night.

Which he already sent you for freaking lingerie, so why not for a hotel room?

She supposed that was what people with more money than they needed did.

She could understand the impulse. Yesterday, she’d used the remainder of the gift card to get her power back on, then to order groceries and a few other things online, splurging when she’d done it. She’d gotten the good cheese, fresh fruit, a carton of ice cream, name-brand shampoo and conditioner, two pairs of underwear that didn’t come in a pack, and two new bras. She hadn’t gone wild, of course. She was going to have to watch her spending even after she got the full amount from the auction because she needed it to go as far as possible.

After all, she still didn’t have a new job.

But so many options were going to open up for her. She was going to get a car, nothing fancy, definitely used, but a good one that was in good condition. She was sure Mr. Elliott would look at it for her. She could use it to drive into Charleston for a better job. In the meantime, she could use the car to do deliveries or something, so she was still making some money. She’d heard people could do pretty well with delivery services, but without a car, she never considered it a possibility for herself.

A whole new world. All she had to do was have sex with a stranger.

She looked around the limo, Sasha’s voice echoing in her head. It wasn’t just the money that was making this special, though. Whoever Master D really was, he was living up to his promise to take care of her.
