Angelina took them through her day yesterday, not leaving any details out. Well, one detail. Max didn’t need to know about the pizza delivery.

“So, you are telling me your man carried you from your office to the bath he ran for you?”

Angelina nodded as she shoved a hunk of flatbread into her mouth.

“He brought you drinks, made you dinner, tucked you in bed, held you after a nightmare, and talked to you.”

“Yes.”

“Then he did amazing things with his mouth while you were on the washer emptying the clothes he put there to help with the household chores. He showed his macho pride by giving his woman more pleasure than her cute little behind has gotten in longer than I want to think about, and you returned the favor.”

“Kinda sums it up.”

“Who have you dated?” Jake demanded.

“He is taking care of what is his,” Max said slowly, like she was a child.

“How does he know I’m his? Who trips around the country with no home address? My father gets all kinds of crap from the Army. Forms he needs to fill out, requests to participate in something, and invites to parties at the base; all that stuff goes through the mail. Where does all his mail go? Even junk mail finds you eventually.”

“True,” Jake nodded, snagging the chicken back from her.

“What man takes one look at a woman and says she is his? I half expect to get hit on the head with a club and drug back into the house. Jokes on him because I can swing a club too. The only difference is I’ll be running in the other direction. It isn’t going to work. I mean, it is a nine and a five thing.”

“Oh,” understanding dawned on Jake. “It isn’t him. It’s you. You’re insecure. Those insecurities are hanging you up. You are tossing out problems that don’t need anything but a simple clarification. Do you realize you have caught the elusive unicorn? A single man who wants to settle down, only sees you, and wants to make your life easier. He is easy on the eyes, hasn’t asked for a penny, he cooks, and does the laundry. I thought I was the only one who had a unicorn.”

“But,” Angelina sputtered.

“No buts,” Jake shook his head. “You need to get over it.”

“Some fairy godmen you are.”

“He is right,” Max agreed. “If you keep pushing him away, eventually, he will go. He may not want to, but your needs come before his. If he thinks it will make you happy, he’ll do it.”

“And then what will you be left with? There are too many Reginald Arthur Regent the thirds in the world. The Ben Owens, aka the Army Kens, of the world are few. Endangered species, few.”

“What am I going to do?” Angelina huffed.

“Suck his dick,” Max answered.

“Really?” Jake shook his head at his lover. “That is not the answer to everything.”

“Tell me I’m not right. We fight about something, and what happens? One of us realizes we were wrong, and the other gets a blow job. In this case, it was our girl who kept throwing up roadblocks. It isn’t going to kill her to get on her knees.”

“Her mind doesn’t work like ours. She needs to talk things out.”

“I’m calling your mom,” Max frowned. “That doesn’t sound right.” Max whipped out his phone. Tapping a few times on the screen had a phone ringing behind them.

Angelina whirled around to find a well-dressed woman coming toward them. She was the matronly version of Jake: same eyes, same hair color, same nose, and mouth. The features were statuesque on her. Angelina sighed with envy. She was tall, trim, and gorgeous.

“Mom,” Max dropped his phone on the table. “You need to settle something for us.”

“You must be Angelina.”

The woman ignored Angelina’s outstretched hand in favor of wrapping her in a hug. The calming peace of a mom hug washed over her. The last time she felt that was before her grandma died.

“She does that to everyone.” Jake smiled as his mother released Angelina and hugged him and Max simultaneously. “Mom, this is our girl, Angelina. Angelina Davis, this is Samantha, my mother.”

“It is so good to meet you, but please call me Sam. I have a feeling we are going to become fast friends.”
