“Not a clue. I didn’t even know he had a family. The lying bastard told me he didn’t have anyone. His parents are dead, and he was an only child.”

“Obviously, that wasn’t true.”

“He made me the other woman. I am just going to order the letters for my shirt. I’m ordering the entire alphabet,” Angelina mumbled. “You didn’t have to come out here. You should be at work.”

“Sweetness,” Jake snapped. “When my girl is not returning my calls or texts, I’m on my way to find out what is wrong. You are mine and Max’s to look after now. We are your fairy godmen here to help you fix this. You shouldn’t be shocked to know my mother will show up before long if no one calls her.”

“He told me he loved me,” Angelina whispered.

“We will nut him.”

“Who are we nutting?” Max asked.

“Damn, that was quick,” Jake whirled around to see Max letting himself in the back door.

“I was just up the road when you called.”

Angelina steadied herself as she stood, grabbing mugs for coffee. It gave her something to do besides feel sorry for herself. That and the overwhelming desire to beat Ben within an inch of his life. Again, why wasn’t maiming a thing? How could he do this to her? What happened to being his? How many women did he fool into thinking they were special?

“Honey, you going to get that?” Jake put his hand on her shoulder to get her attention.

“What?” Angelina asked as she heard what they were talking about. Someone was knocking on the front door.

“Do you have appointments today? We can tell them you are sick and reschedule,” Jake offered.

“No one is coming in today,” she mumbled.

Max strode toward the door. Angelina didn’t care who it was as long as they went away. Far, far away.

“Ang, uh,” Max fumbled for the right words.

“What is it, my love?” Jake asked.

“There is a woman at the door,” Max swallowed hard. “She wants to see Ben.”

“Dumbass led his woman to our girl,” Jake grunted.

Rage burned through her. It branded her bleeding heart and turned it cold. She was not going to be one of his groupies. There would be no Ben fan club meetings at her house. Burn him at the stake; she could get behind that.

There would be no gushing about how wonderful he is because that was the furthest thing from the truth. Slamming her mug against the counter, she stomped to the door. It was time to get rid of the first Ben groupie to knock on her door.

“I see Ben is sending a woman instead of facing me himself,” she sighed dramatically.

Jake gasped. Having her men here made Angelina feel better. It sucked to tell his wife or girlfriend she was one of who knows how many, but it looked like she already knew something was up.

“Ben isn’t here,” Angelina managed in the politest tone she could summon.

“Of course, he isn’t,” she rolled her eyes.

The woman in the doorway was tall. Her willowy body was what graced the covers of magazines. The long red bouncy hair was shiny and curled perfectly. Not a thing was out of place, from her designer clothes to her manicured nails to her red soled heels. She was the perfect picture of elegance and grace. It soothed her slightly that Ben ran around on her too. There was something wrong with him, not her.

“Listen. You can think what you want, but I’m not lying. Ben isn’t here. I have no idea who you are. All I know is he was gone when I woke up this morning. If you are his wife, I had no idea you existed. If you are a girlfriend, you already know he is running around on you. Sorry, I have no idea where he is. I don’t expect him back. Maybe we can start a phone tree or something if he shows up.”

“He’ll be back,” she smiled. Her overly-whitened teeth completed the magazine model look. “He always comes back to the rescues. It’s his thing. Poor Ben just can’t help himself. The man is plagued by white knight syndrome.”

“And you are?” Angelina was quickly losing patience with the woman on her porch. It had been a crappy morning, and the urge to make her face a lot less perfect was riding Angelina hard.

“Jenna. I am his wife.”
