“Yes, and they are beautiful,” she played along. “We do have a problem.”

“What could possibly be the problem with your man sending you flowers, my beautiful girl?”

She bit back a laugh. He was laying it on thick for his father. By the end of the day, the hot gossip around town would be about the newest couple.

“The delivery guy.”

“Did he hit on you?”

“If you have a pulse and could be considered female, he will hit on you. He also mentioned his concern that you work too much to be able to take care of my needs.”

“He did not,” Jake groaned.

“He might have mentioned I was a frigid bitch to top it all off.”

“Holy shit. How is he still employed?”

“He shows up for work, and I think he is related to the owner. Nephew, I believe.”

“I will take care of it and bring the flowers myself next time.”

“Thank you,” Angelina sighed. More people should have a fake boyfriend. “I hear you are busy, so I will let you go. Text me later and let me know what day you want to do something. I just got three new contracts this morning. I’m going to be working late.”

“Will do, sweetness. I am so proud of you. I will text you later.”

“Stick with sweetness. I like that one the best.”

“Got it,” Jake replied, sounding less stressed than when he answered the phone. “Talk to you later.”

Angeline chuckled to herself as she tossed the phone on her desk. It was time to get back to work. The next person on her list was looking for a house. A massive house. What two people needed at least thirteen thousand square feet was beyond her. Hey, as long as they paid the bill and she didn’t have to clean it, go for it. She would have time to get it going before she started on her new contracts. Who needed to sleep? Angelina was afraid the answer was not her.

Chapter 3

“Sweetness, you work more than Max does,” Jake told her.

“Feast or famine,” Angelina shrugged, trying to focus on the screen in front of her.

The days flew by. She begged off date night last week, worked through their plan to go for drinks, and took an unscheduled nap when she was supposed to meet Jake for coffee. So far, she was failing at being a fake girlfriend. In her defense, she did a video chat with him. She should get bonus points because his father walked into the coffee shop while they were on the phone.

“You look like shit.” Max yanked her chair away from the computer. “When was the last time you ate real food?”

“Hey,” Angelina cried. “I’m not done.”

“Look at the bags under your eyes. There are raccoons with less color around their eyes.”

“Jake, your man is insulting me.”

“Sorry, my girl. It can’t be an insult if it is the truth.”

“Wow, way to treat your girlfriend.”

“The house you started looks absolutely stunning,” Jake amended.

“Awe, thank you,” Angelina yawned.

“Only the house,” Max growled.

“Is he always this way?” She asked Jake.
