Her head whipped around to stare at Ben and then down at the phone. The screen was blank. Angelina let her head fall to the desk with a thunk.

“Love,” Ben knelt beside her. “Tell me you are all right.”

Angelina nodded, making papers fall to the floor.

Ben yanked her chair away from the desk. He pulled her onto his lap, taking her face in his hands. “Angelina, tell me what just happened.” Caressing her cheeks with his thumbs, Ben waited until she spoke.

“Jake called.”

Ben stilled his fingers. “What did you tell him?”

“I froze. I had to answer the phone. We couldn’t take the chance of him coming out here. He might not have been the best father, but Daniel is Jake’s father. I can’t let my best friend walk into a mess like this,” she rambled. “I had no idea what to say. When I saw my panties, it was the only thing I could think of that Jake wouldn’t question. I went with it. Jake and Max think we have been in bed for the last three days.”

Her head snapped up when Ben started to laugh.

“You think this is funny?”

“Shorty, I want nothing more than to tie you to a bed and worship your sexy body for days.”

“Ben,” Angelina sighed. There were so many things wrong that she had no idea where to start.

“Baby girl?” Quinn’s booming voice called.

“Dad,” she gaped at Ben as she tried to scramble off his lap.

“Made good time, Boss Man. She’s up here,” Ben replied, refusing to let her go.

Her father spoke, and the sound of people moving invaded their silence. Less than a minute later, he was at the top of the stairs.

“Thank God,” Quinn sighed in relief when he saw Angelina sitting on Ben’s lap with her legs around him.

“Told you I just needed a few days,” Ben laughed.

“Baby girl, you have good taste in men.”

“Boss Man, we have things to discuss,” Angelina raised an eyebrow at her father. Gone was the cast. In its place was a walking boot that looked as if it had a few modifications. Angelina looked her father over. He had a bruise on the side of his head and a painful-looking cut on his cheek. Whatever happened, he and Ben were injured.

“Later,” Quinn dismissed her. “You good?”

Angelina nodded.

“She is going to sit right here until we sweep the house and the yard,” Ben looked pointedly at her.

“Fifteen minutes tops,” Quinn nodded.

“Kitten,” a frustrated growl drifted up the stairs to her office.

“Drake?”

“Kitten?” Quinn grunted. “Do I even want to know?”

“She broke Rat’s nose with a headbutt on our first morning back.” Ben smiled with pride as he placed her on the office chair. “Tore him up good.”

“Good girl.”

“Kitten, did you fry the security system to stream Ben’s nuts? Do you know how long it took me to get that camera in the fan?”

“Quit bitching,” Angelina called. “I told you I didn’t want a security system, but it wasn’t me.”
