“Um,” she gulped. “Is Franny going to be okay? I think I’m going to need one of those bats back.”

Roach chuckled. “We have been gone for two weeks. Prez needs time with his woman. Do us all a favor, turn up the tunes, and let them alone.”

“Oh.” Her eyes flew wide as realization dawned. “Didn’t she just fire someone for that?”

“No idea, Rosey,” he murmured as he nuzzled her hair.

“Ladybug,” she purred a second before she drove her elbow into his stomach. “I’m married.”

“Not for long,” he wheezed with a grin on his face.

“As of right this second, I am someone else’s wife. That means keep your hands to yourself.”

“You’re no fun.”

“Exactly right. We may be over, but until he signs on the dotted line, not a damn thing is going to happen.”

“So you’re saying I have a chance.”

“I hear there is an opening at the snow cone stand in hell.”

“Rosey, I’m going to wear you down.”

“Not likely.”

“Honey, you going to take Cockroach back to your room, or can you get me a beer?” A man halfway down the bar yelled.

A heartfelt moan came from behind the kitchen door.

“Alrighty, time to turn up the music, and everyone needs a drink, right?”

Rose turned up the radio and started pouring beer. It had been a long time since she worked in a bar. Some things never changed, no matter how much time passed. No one got mad as long as the beer was cold and flowing.

“Sweetheart, I don’t know where you’re from, but you are coming home with me tonight.”

“My dance card is all full tonight,” Rose brushed him off.

His eyes flared in anger a second before he tried to grab her. Rose danced out of the way and continued down the bar away from him.

Up until now, no one paid much attention to her other than to tell her what they were drinking. Interest lit in the eyes of the only man at the bar who looked her direction for longer than it took to order a beer. He was the cocky one of the group, and with these guys, that was saying a lot. Rose wondered how he fit a helmet over his overly gelled hair. As stiff as it was, maybe he used the blonde locks for protection. A single tattoo on his forearm stood out in a sea of guys with scrolling art as far as the eye could see. He was also the only man without a cut. Franny said other people stopped in. Rose thought nothing of it until he turned his attention toward her.

“Don’t ignore me bitch,” he bellowed. “You don’t want me to come back there and teach you some manners.”

“Wait, you have manners?” Rose looked at him incredulously.

“Eyes to yourself,” Vulture ordered.

“She yours?”

“She ain’t yours.”

“If she isn’t yours, the bitch is fair game just like the rest of them.”

Rose’s jaw dropped as they jumped to their feet, stood toe to toe, and glared at each other. Loud voices turned into hushed whispers as the tension skyrocketed around them.

“Pretty boy, hang around,” Roach spat. “It’s time for you to go. She is way too good for you or your daddy’s money.”

“When you get tired of doing both of them, give me a call, sweetheart. It doesn’t take two cocks to do what I can do. Then again, if you are all stretched out, I don’t want leftover used-up snatch.”
