“Why the hell don’t you sleep?”

“Insomnia?”

“Bullshit.”

“Bunny, Birdy is being mean to me.”

“You did throw a knife at his head,” he reminded her.

“One time.”

“Is there something you want to tell us? Are you involved in this warehouse shit?”

Rose sat silent. She weighed her options. If she told them, they would go after her husband. Almost husband. Soon-to-be ex-husband. Whatever Warren was or wasn’t to her, Bunny would send his band of morally grey brothers after him. Did she want that?

What about Birdy? With the looks he was giving her, he knew she heard his conversation. Should she say something? They were searching for the mole. Would they believe her? She had been with them for a grand total of two weeks. Vulture was a patched member with a VP patch by his name.

“Rosey, open your mouth,” Roach pleaded. “It would break my heart to take you to the cabin.”

“Do I look stupid?” Rose rolled her eyes. “You would be hard the entire time I was tied up.”

“Who are you fucking?”

“Tanya.” Rose went with the first thing that popped into her head.

Tank’s lips twitched. “The only woman she would lick a pussy for is my ol’ lady. And that would only happen if Franny let her have a crack at me. None of those things are going to happen. Want to try again?”

“Are you sure?”

“Absolutely.”

“It was a good try,” Rose shrugged.

“Truth. Now.”

“Birdy, you need a chill pill before you lay an egg.”

“Better tell them what is going on in that pretty head of yours,” Roach encouraged.

Rose opened her mouth and closed it. Indecision rendered her speechless for the first time in her life. She had no smart comment. All she had was an ache in her chest so powerful it took her breath away.

“I think-”

Rose was cut off when a loud rumble shook the room, knocking her from her chair. The ground shook, and the smell of smoke and dust filled the room. Vulture dove to the floor, covering her body with his. Tank and Roach ran from the room, drawing weapons from under their cuts as they ran. Rose tried unsuccessfully to wiggle out from under Birdy’s body.

“Birdy, let me go. Franny was in the kitchen.”

“Not going anywhere,” Vulture ordered, locking her wrist in his hold. “You are my responsibility.”

“I don’t need a keeper. I need to make sure Franny is good.”

Vulture yanked her to her feet. Before she could kick him, Rose found herself being shoved forward. Birdy tapped on the paneled wall. When the sound changed, he pulled a knife from his belt and slid it along the seam between the wood. The panel popped open to reveal a space between the walls.

“No,” Rose tugged her arm in an attempt to get away.

“You are a little taller than Franny, but you’ll have to make do,” he grunted, shoving her toward the wall. “Don’t make a sound. Someone will get you when it is all clear.”

“Do not do this, Vulture.”
