Vulture bit his lip, and sweat beaded on his forehead, dampening his dark curls. His reaction didn’t go unnoticed. At least he was more subtle about it.

“I can’t even,” Rose shook her head at Lucas before turning her full focus on the man in charge. “So how do we resolve this? I don’t have two hundred and fifty thousand dollars to give you. As I said, the house is sold, and I don’t have access to anything near the amount you want.”

“You know, I think you are just what we need at home.”

“Nope. Not happening.”

“I made up my mind.”

“Well, unmake it,” Rose burst out.

“You or him.”

“What do you mean it is me or him?”

“You come with us, or I shoot him where he lays bleeding on your floor,” the president shrugged, pulling a pistol from under his cut and aiming right at Lucas’ head.

Rose’s heart raced. Looking at her brother lying on the floor, she knew she couldn’t let this behemoth shoot her only remaining blood family. Even if he was a pain in her ass, he was her brother.

“What exactly are you proposing?” Rose stepped in front of Lucas.

“You come with us. Work off his debt. After I am satisfied, you are free to go.”

“I’m not sleeping with any of you.” Rose crossed her arms over her chest and tapped her foot nervously on the floor.

“We have a bar. You can work there or in the kitchen. Who you sleep with is your business.”

“How about a payment plan?”

“Do I look stupid?”

Rose snapped her mouth closed before she said something to make the situation worse.

“I’ve worked in a bar before,” she thought out loud, chewing on her lip.

“Tick-tock,” Tank cocked his gun.

“I can deal with that,” she agreed. “But I get to keep a phone, and I cannot leave for two days, and I’m driving my own car that I will keep once I’m there.”

“Awful lot of demands for someone who doesn’t have a leg to stand on,” Tank scoffed, waving his gun at her.

Rose stood straighter, blocking Lucas from his view. “I’ll stay and work. I won’t try to run away. I won’t call anyone to come get me. However, I need to know you are holding up your end of the deal. Calling Lucas is the only way I will know for sure.”

“If I let you keep a phone and the car, you won’t try anything stupid?”

“I promise to work until the debt is paid off.”

“I check the phone anytime I want, and all numbers but his are blocked. I keep the car keys. You can go with permission and an escort.”

“Fine,” Rose nodded. Her heart was threatening to pound out of her chest. The gun was still aimed at her. Well, Lucas, but it wasn’t like she would step aside and let him shoot her brother.

“We all leave together tomorrow.”

“Two days.”

“Tomorrow, or I end him now.”

“Tomorrow it is,” Rose sighed.
