“Here,” Brooks held up the keys to their rental. “Sit in the car and don’t draw attention to yourself.”

The man stepped out of the truck and took the keys. They waited until the driver was in their car before they drove down the street to their target.

“This is a first,” Brooks chuckled, hunkered down behind the driver’s seat. “You think the car will be there when we get back?”

“He wants to propose to his girl and move to a nice place. The kid works two jobs and is dead tired. He can catch a nap, and we will wake him up when we’re done.”

“Who would have guessed you are getting soft in your old age?”

Warren turned into the circular drive a little sharper than he needed. A smug grin crossed his face when Brooks tumbled to the side.

“Alright, I take it back. Ingenious thinking boss. You don’t miss a beat.”

“That’s what I thought you said,” Warren griped, putting the truck in park outside the mansion. “Fry the camera, steal his jewelry, and smash some shit. I’m going to deliver a message before I end this bastard.”

“Got it.”

Warren and Brooks got out of the truck and strolled causally to the door. He already knew there was no staff because the target was too cheap for that. Brooks rolled his eyes when he found the front door unlocked. He stopped at the tiny box on the wall.

“Jesus Christ, you can buy better off a Walmart clearance rack.”

“If he were smart, we wouldn’t be here.”

“True. Go off him so we can get the kid his truck back.”

“Pocket something nice as a bonus for him.”

“Soft,” Brooks coughed.

Warren flipped Brooks off as he went in search of his hit. He found the man in the kitchen. A giddy sense of excitement crept through him. He wanted to get this done as fast as possible. As fast as possible would be the loudest option. Stealth and speed were necessary since a shot was out of the question. He wasn’t concerned for himself, but he didn’t want some nosy busybody pointing a finger at a kid trying to make a better life. The kitchen made it easier to get in and out without alerting the neighbors. Lots of weapons and very little noise made Warren’s job easier.

“It isn’t wise to leave the front door unlocked when you crossed the Cuban businessmen you work for. However, I must admit, it makes my job a little easier.”

“What do you want?” The man stuttered.

Warren looked at him in disgust. He was a middle-aged man with a comb over. His skin had a sweaty, pale, sickly sheen.

“If this is about that misunderstanding with the girl, I wasn’t charged.”

“You didn’t think that was a little odd? You beat a young girl and attempted to rape her. She was the daughter of one of the men you work for.”

“I didn’t know,” he pleaded.

“And that is supposed to make it better?”

“It wasn’t my idea.”

“I suppose it wasn’t your idea to take a little off the top for yourself either? Skimming money from your bosses is not a good retirement plan.”

“He said,” the man gulped as tears ran down his cheeks. “He said it was to draw you out.”

Warren paused.

“Who said?”

“This guy. He is built like you. Does the same thing you do. I guess you crossed him, and he wants revenge.”

“Well, congratulations. I’m here. Where is this man?”
