Warren nodded.

“Do they leave behind families? Probably not the guy who offed his wives, but others with a living wife or kids.”

“We make sure no one sees a thing, and the family is taken care of if they weren’t involved.”

“We. Brooks goes with you?”

“He was my spotter. We do jobs together. Two in. Two out. We both go home.”

“Okay,” Rose nodded, blowing out a breath. “I can’t believe I didn’t know.”

Warren held her while she processed. It was a good sign that she hadn’t tried to maim him. If she got through this much, he was almost home free. Just the thought of going to bed with his wife wrapped in his arms every night brought a smile to his face. He wanted to sink his cock into her until she was so lost in the pleasure he gave her that all she could do was mumble his name.

“I need some time to think about this.”

“I love you, my precious Petal.”

“Yeah, ya do. So much that you put my name on a company without my knowledge. I don’t even want to know how you made that happen.”

Warren kept his mouth shut. It was probably good she didn’t want to know. He had a feeling if she knew he dressed one of his operatives up as her to sign the paperwork in front of the lawyer, he would get stabbed tonight in his sleep.

“Wait,” Rose reeled in confusion. “If you know Bunny and Birdy, why am I here?”

“About that,” Warren rubbed the back of his neck, looking guilty.

“What have you done? Is Lucas really in trouble?”

“Tank did that as a favor to me. Lucas is in trouble. He’s had a few run-ins with the club. He is at one of their safe houses until we can get the rest of this mess cleared up. Tank will deal with him.”

“It was all a setup? But the bikes,” Rose fumbled. “What about the money he owes for damages?”

“Love you, Petal. I needed you to be somewhere safe.”

“You dick. Was it all fake? That was how they found a bus so fast. What was your genius plan if I asked you for the money?”

“Tank and Vulture would have taken you.”

Rose smacked his chest. “It didn’t cross your mind that being abducted would have scared the crap out of me?”

“Rose, you would have fought them every step of the way. While I would have loved to see you kick their asses, if it came down to it, they would have done what I asked.”

“I don’t understand. Please tell me there isn’t anymore.”

Warren took a deep breath before he started.

“About a year ago, I started getting messages. First, they were just strange emails. Then it went to odd things missing. It escalated from there. Messages left for me with my next target, my truck brakes cut, pictures sent to me and my crew.”

“Someone is watching you.”

“Anyone with a family followed protocol.”

“Protocol is putting distance between them and their families, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, Petal. It was the only way to keep you safe.”

“And it never crossed your mind to tell me? You let me think you didn’t want me anymore, that there was something wrong with me, or we grew apart because I wasn’t worth coming home to.”

“It was the hardest thing I have ever done. Harder than sneaking in after you went to sleep to hold you for a few hours before I went back to the couch in my office. Harder than watching you cry, knowing I was the reason. Harder than losing two of my best friends in a place no one has ever heard of. I am the only man with a wife. Everyone else is single or sleeping with someone at the office.”
