They waited until the man pointed his pistol at the group approaching.

“Now,” Rose said.

Franny threw the first piece. It landed beside the shooter. Rose dropped everything in her shaking arms at the same time. Chunks of roofing material pelted the man below them.

“Oh damn.”

Rose and Franny lunged away from the ledge when he turned and started shooting at them.

“So not part of the plan,” Rose blabbered.

“We have a plan?”

“Kind of.”

Shots rang out around them. Rose and Franny huddled behind the ledge.

“What was the plan?”

“It was a work in progress.”

The shooting stopped. Rose and Franny laid there frozen while they listened.

“Petal.”

“Franny.”

“Now they decide to get here,” Rose sobbed at the sound of Warren’s voice.

“I will never give him hell about how many trackers he wants to put on me ever again,” Franny blew out a relieved breath.

“Yeah, I would wait a little while for that.”

“Petal,” Warren growled.

“Up here,” Rose yelled.

She sat up just in time to see Warren come over the ledge with Tank right behind him. Her body shook as the adrenaline left her system.

“Petal, baby, are you okay? Which one of those sorry bastards hit you?”

“Franny needs help. She is shot.”

“Tattletale,” Franny winced as Tank swung her up in his arms.

“Getting you back to the clubhouse. Vulture can look at you there. If that bastard wasn’t already dead, I would kill him again for touching you.”

Rose smiled as Franny wrapped her arms around Bunny, melting into him.

“Rose,” Warren choked. He held her face in his hands, inspecting the side of her head. “Who hit you? Your arms are blistering, and your hands need to be cleaned.”

“Lucas,” she whispered, meeting his enraged gaze.

“He is dead.”

“Yeah, that other guy shot him.”

“Petal.” Warren hauled her onto his lap and held her tight. The thought of losing her had him clutching her tighter. He was an idiot to think pushing her away would keep her safe. His Rose better get ready because there would be no space and no distance from now on. “So brave. I saw what you were doing to him. So proud of you. If you ever do that again, I don’t think my heart can take it, but you fought until I got to you.”
