Still, I love her flirtatious demeanor, the way she’d get embarrassed and redness would flush across her cheeks.

There was a way her eyes sparkled like diamonds when she smiled, captivating me in ways no other woman ever had before.

Then again, I’m not some hopeless romantic.

Astra is my ideal dream woman.

Pale. Vibrant, crazy colored hair. Inked.

From the first moment I laid my eyes on her, I could tell she’s been through some intense shit.

Most might not be able to see it, but I can see through the invisible wall she has up around her.

I take another sip of my Corona, allowing the taste of the beer to settle on my tongue for a moment before swallowing.

The taste of beer mixed with cigarette smoke wafting through the air is oddly comforting.

It reminds me of my early days when everything wasn’t so tough.

I try not to think too much about my family these days.

They tug at my heart in ways most wouldn’t understand.

Not a lot of people have lost everyone close to them, but I have, and it’s a lonely place to be.

“Look what the cat dragged in,” a familiar voice says from behind me.

Sure enough, I turn around and there’s someone I didn’t expect to see home as of yet.

He furrows his brows and smirks. “What the fuck are you doing down here?”

I met Axel years ago when I was riding through Billings.

I smirk. “I needed to get out of that damn clubhouse. What about you?”

Sure enough, Axel’s wife, Rosa, is in tow behind him with two drinks.

Axel shakes his head in disbelief. “No shit, you’re probably going crazy being cooped up all the damn time.”

“I know. I just got back and all.” Rosa hands off one of the drinks to her husband. “But I’m surprised you haven’t cracked before now.”

I respond sarcastically. “Look at you being Miss Optimistic.”

Axel shrugs. “Get used to it, brother. Rosa can’t help but be a pessimist.”

She holds up a hand, signaling for us to stop. “Whoa there, boys. Nothing is wrong with being a realist, okay? Don’t you think we need to be a little more in touch with reality, all things considered?”

Axel gives his wife a once-over. “Sure, but I don’t think anything is wrong with seeing if things can surprise us.”

“Unless it’s the Hernandez cartel,” I quip, causing Rosa to choke on her drink.

She smacks me on the shoulder. “Damn, I didn’t think anyone in the club would have dark humor like me.”

I take a swig of my Corona. “Sorry to disappoint, but now you have some competition.”

Axel groans, running a hand over his face. “Let me reintroduce you to my wife, Rosa, the most competitive woman on the planet.”

I chuckle. “How long have you both been back? I thought you weren’t supposed to get back for a couple more days.”
