Fuck it.

I’m not standing here any longer.

Walking over to her, I lean against the bar next to her, close enough to feel the heat radiating off her body. “I never would have expected to see you in a place like this.”

She turns toward me, her lips curving into a mischievous grin. “What kind of place is it that you expect me to be in, Python?”

I chuckle lightly. “A nice, colorful place like your café.”

Astra’s eyes go dark. “My café might be warm and inviting, but it doesn’t mean that’s the kind of person I am.”

My curiosity is piqued. “What kind of person are you?”

Astra scoffs as she stares down at her drink. “When I find out, you’ll be the first to know.”

There it is again, that sarcastic sass I like from her.

“If it makes you feel any better.” I pause, knowing I need to choose my words carefully. “I still don’t know who I am half the time.”

“That’s somewhat reassuring,” she admits, smirking at me.

Astra takes a sip of her mojito and eyes my beer. “I should have known you’d be a Corona man.”

“Well, I’m not normally. Just seemed like the easy choice to take tonight.”

Astra cocks her head to the side. “Are you the kind of man who enjoys the easy choices?”

Man, I can sense the digging she’s doing underneath her words.

I’m not going to lie to her. “In the past, I have been, but I’m not so sure I want the easy choice now. I think I want to ponder my options.”

Astra licks her lips. “Sometimes, putting in the work leads to greater rewards.”

I chuckle lightly. “I have heard that.”

There’s a brief moment of silence before I change the subject to something a little less intense.

I don’t want her to think I’m only flirting with her for sex, so it’s best to have some sort of casual conversation, right? “Has your night been going well?”

Astra smiles, her eyes flickering with amusement. “It was boring as hell until you showed up,” she replies coolly.

I grin, enjoying the honesty. “You don’t know me well, but I won’t allow you to suffer with boredom.”

We chat for a little while, our conversation having a flirtatious tone underneath every word.

There are even a few playful jabs, which only make me like her more.

I figured, at some point, she’d annoy the hell out of me, and I wouldn’t want to be around her, but Astra only makes me want to get closer to her.

The music picks up, and I take her onto the dance floor.

I’m a little tipsy, but I hold my liquor well and want to have some fun with her.

Our bodies get close but never quite touch as song after song plays.

The tension between us is palpable, like an electric current running constantly underneath our skin.

I want to kiss her, and without warning, I lean in and do the damn thing.
