I reply honestly, “I’m glad to help in some way. She seems like a really nice person.”

He nods. “She is. Come on, let me show you around.”

Python takes my hand in his so naturally and leads me around the clubhouse, showing me the bottom level, and then takes me into the attached garage.

I have to admit, I’m surprised by the size of the place.

Scanning my eyes over the few bikes in here, I take them all in.

“You ever ride?” Python asks.

I crack up and shake my head. “God, no. I’d wreck.”

Python leans against the wall. “What makes you say that?”

I take a moment to think about my answer but just blurt it out. “I’m just gonna be honest here. I am not that coordinated.”

“For some reason, I highly doubt that. All you need to ride a bike is a little bit of confidence. I could teach you, you know.”

I shake my head, unable to imagine myself on one of these machines.

It would be a disaster. They’d go too fast and be too unpredictable, just like the men who ride them. Specifically, the one who can’t take his eyes off mine.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” I admit, keeping my eyes on the bikes in front of me.

I don’t want to be caught by his piercing blue eyes yet.

“Sometimes the best ideas are the ones we’re too afraid to do.”

His words hit me right in the heart.

I know I’m too afraid to pursue anything with him because I know he’s got to be trouble.

There’s absolutely no way he couldn’t be trouble. I mean, look at him. He’s a carbon copy of some Viking-looking guy.

I glance up for a split second, and Python’s smile widens. “Come on, let me teach you.”

I shake my head. “I don’t know. Give me some time to think about it.”

Time is all I need to get some space and away from this thick, hot tension brewing between us.

Python pushes himself off the wall and comes over to me. “Come on, I know you’ll have a blast.”

For some reason, his pushing me about this only aggravates me.

It reminds me of shit Tony used to do, and I really don’t like it.

I look right into his eyes and make sure he understands me loud and clear, “I’m good,” before making my way back into the clubhouse.

I’ll just sit on the couch until Oakleigh comes back down.

Python

I stare at Astra as she b-lines it for the main area of the clubhouse, my mind reeling from her sudden change in demeanor.

What happened to the flirtatious, witty woman I’m used to?
