Instead, she’s acting like I’m some creep hitting on her.

I stand here alone in the garage, trying to understand what the fuck just happened.

I remember a couple of weeks ago, she was all over me at the bar.

Her lips brushed against mine with an unspoken ode to the chemistry brewing between us.

But now, she has a wall around her, distancing herself from me.

It’s almost like she realized what my life is like, and now she wants nothing to do with me.

If that’s the case, I can’t hate her for it.

My life comes with risks, and I doubt she even understands them.

A shiver runs down my spine as a cold rush of air sneaks in while Rooster and Doom come inside.

“Get shit workin’, right?” I question the two prospects.

Rooster answers me, “Almost. We’re callin’ it a night, but we’ll finish in the morning.”

I give them a nod, all of us settling into our new roles at the club.

It’s been so odd to actually be part of a club instead of just staying in one for a couple of days while I rest my head.

The last time I stayed for a length of time at a club was when I was in Gainesville, Tennessee.

One of my good friends, Seamus, is one of the oldest members of the Skulls Renegade MC.

Whenever I felt like I needed somewhere to land, I always knew I could go there.

He, Reed, and the rest of the club always welcomed me, no matter the day, hour, or situation going on when I showed up.

Now, things are so much different.

I have a home.

I have a place where I’m making roots, and I just want to have the full experience.

I see Oakleigh doting around Razor’s arm and wonder what it could be like for me.

Fuck this.

I head out into the clubhouse and spot Astra sitting on the couch.

She’s running a hand through her fiery red hair, and I suck in a deep breath.

I don’t even know what the fuck I’m doing, but I have to see what the hell is going on.

I head over to her and take a seat beside her, just like before.

“What’s wrong?” I keep my voice low and even.

The last thing I want to do is push her away even more, but I need to understand what happened.

I don’t think I acted like a total ass, but who the fuck knows.

She looks up at me, her eyes wide and, oddly enough, full of fear. “It’s nothing,” she murmurs quickly, shaking her head. “I just . . . needed some space.”
