Oakleigh comes walking down the stairs and walks straight back over to us. “You want a drink?”

Astra immediately stands. “God, do I ever.”

The ladies walk off toward the bar, and I take in a deep, settling breath.

The air is thick with alcohol and perfume as Astra walks away.

She smells like a mixture of cinnamon and vanilla, which completely makes sense given her spicy yet calming nature.

I watch the ladies making their drinks, pouring them into their glasses, and Rosa heads right up to Oakleigh.

Rosa pulls her to the side, and this is my chance.

I rise from my seat, my cut creaking against the couch as I do so.

As I grow closer, I spot my reflection in the mirror behind the bar, but all I can focus on is Astra.

Her eyes lock onto mine for a brief moment before she turns away, her long red hair swishing softly behind her.

She’s like a flame that I can’t help but be drawn to.

I want the fire to surround me, slowly engulfing me moment by moment.

I feel fucking insane for even thinking this shit.

I don’t know how to explain it other than the fact I want her.

I want her more than I’ve wanted anyone in my entire life.

Astra’s eyes lock on mine. “You want a drink or something?”

I lick my lips and walk around the back of the bar, purposefully brushing my body against hers.

I grab a beer out of the fridge and open it up, taking a long pull. “Just needed a drink, sweetheart.”

My heart pounds in my chest, and an unfamiliar feeling of nervousness swirling in my stomach.

I’m not used to this shit.

The only thing I ever look for is sex, but I don’t want Astra to think that’s what I want.

I want more with her, or at least I think I do.

With her pushing back right now, she’s a challenge I want to overcome.

Hell, I’ve never wanted to get close to any woman except for one reason, and yet here I am with Astra, yearning to get closer to her in another way.

Something about her makes me want to take the risk.

I keep my voice low and husky, not wanting her to know her sudden gruffness is affecting me. “You need anything?”

She glances over her shoulder at me. “I’m good, but thanks.”

I crane my neck to the side. “What the fuck happened?”

Her eyes meet mine. “Excuse me?”

I lick my lips, carefully choosing my words. “You got all rough around the edges on me. What’s that about?”
